to 'reflect (on what a dumbass he is) and be able to pray as they see fit'Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a new law this week that requires schools to hold daily moments of silence for students.
"It's important to be able to provide each student the ability every day to reflect and be able to pray as they see fit," DeSantis said before signing the bill, according to CNN.
Though the law doesn't mandate prayer, DeSantis used religious terms at the bill's signing, railing against "the idea that you can just push God out of every institution and be successful."
"I'm sorry, our founding fathers did not believe that," DeSantis added.

(1,773 posts)If DeSantis could force every school child in Florida to bow and pray in the direction of the governor's mansion five times a day I'm sure he would.

(19,204 posts)to be the next republican presidential nominee. Yes he is. He's got "stupid" written all over him, but that seems to be what it takes to succeed in republican politics these days.

And this is the only crap that gets done in republican governments.

(6,537 posts)And this is totally useless...I'd spend my time praying that my favorite team would win something. I'd get a sports rug and lay it out, and start praying away...Can they get in trouble if they prayed for the demise of the Repub Party? See, this could go any way you want.
So stupid...

(51,611 posts)employee I would definitely be creative and not allow this to occur in my classroom. I could be very clever and discreet and get around a lot of this required BS.
When Clinton and Obama were the POTUS my students knew who they were when we celebrated Presidents' Day. When Bush was POTUS my kids had no idea who the current POTUS was, unless they walked in the office and saw his photo on the wall (they were clueless being 1st graders).

(21,768 posts)That can bite him on the butt in an appeal.
On the other hand, he doesn't give a rip about schools, prayers, or God.
He's just making political points for his base.

(14,858 posts)Yes, exactly. Does he ever do anything else?
Anyway, if this does get struck down, he can then frame it as persecution of Christians by the courts. The preachers will cast him as a hero of the faith, and his Christian supporters will come out in droves to cast their ballots for him.
