BBC Journalist harrassed and chased by anti-mask protesters yelling traitor

Boris Johnson condemns 'disgraceful hounding' of BBC journalist

A clip shared on social media shows demonstrators haranguing BBC Newsnight's political editor Nicholas Watt on Monday outside Downing Street.

A crowd had gathered to protest the extension of coronavirus restrictions for a further four weeks.

The protesters shouted "traitor" at Mr Watt and accused him of "lying" about lockdowns being legal.

Following the emergence of the footage, the prime minister tweeted: "Disgraceful to see the hounding of Nick Watt doing his job.

"The media must be able to report the facts without fear or favour - they are the lifeblood of our democracy."

In a statement, BBC director-general Tim Davie said: "The safety of journalists is fundamental to any democracy - they must be able to report unhindered free from abuse.

"There is absolutely no justification for any journalist to be treated in this way."

this way now? Or were they always this way? Is it because of the pandemic and the lockdowns?

This is so depressing.

Currently they mad because brands are removing advertising:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/gb-news-adverts-boycott-ikea-b1866799.html

Several well-known brands have pulled advertising from upstart channel GB News amid concerns over its content.

Ikea, cider firm Kopparberg and Octopus Energy have all withdrawn their adverts on the network following its launch on Sunday.

GB News, positioned as a rival to the news and current affairs offerings of the likes of BBC and Sky, is fronted by veteran broadcaster Andrew Neil.

He said the channel would not be “another echo chamber for the metropolitan mindset that already dominates so much of the media”.

However, GB News has faced accusations it will be broadcasting US-style partisan news shows in the UK and campaign group Stop Funding Hate challenged advertisers on social media...

And, of course, that toad Piers Morgan jumped into the fray because he needs a new gig and "Fox news for Brits" looks like a perfect fit.

7. No, this is not the same - the video is "Resistance GB", who are the kind of idiots you'd expect

with a name like that. The video begins with Watt saying "is that GB News?" and they reply "no", and then they launch into the rant about the BBC lying a thousand times more. "Resistance GB" is an extremist anti-lockdown internet group, no doubt overjoyed at the publicity (because their kind of supporter likes the idea of harrassing BBC journalists).
