Twitter rips Ted Cruz over awkward video where he recites Pledge of Allegiance, claims its 'controversial'On Monday, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz pretended to stoke the flames of controversy by gasp awkwardly reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in a video now being widely mocked on Twitter.
The Texas Republican shared a clip of himself, alone in his office, hand over his heart, delivering a nasally, robotic recitation of the Pledge. "This didnt use to be controversial," he tweeted by away of explanation, throwing in the hashtag #flagday to remind us that June 14 is the day in 1777 when the U.S. officially approved the design of the national flag.
Because, um, patriotism. Or red meat for the base. Or something. In truth, it's hard to tell what Cruz was after. Let's just say his performance doesn't come across as particularly stirring.
And as is so often the case when Texas' junior senator tries to use Twitter to gin up controversy, he instead unleashed an avalanche of mockery.

(3,396 posts)I don't believe, like many people do, that most republicans have a belief system, they know they are making fools of themselves in front of people who have independent thought, but their base? Their base cannot think for themselves, they believe any crap these SOBs throw at them so they don't mind looking stupid to the rest of the World, it is their base they are after.
People like Ted Cruz, Gym Jordan, Lindsey Graham, Matt Gaetz, Moscow Mitch, etc. have no principles, no dignity left (if they ever had any), these people will do anything to get reelected, they have no ideologies, no patriotism, it is all about themselves so lying is not only good for their agenda, it is a way of life, it is a necessity to them, and making fools of themselves is part of it.

(12,504 posts)because the disillusioned treason weasel actually thinks he has a shot at becoming president some day.
A few weeks ago he quoted a line from the Independence Day movie, where the president said We will not go quietly into the night killing aliens.
It was very cringe worthy.

The guest on the Newsmax panel called for her to be investigated and even prosecuted, has anyone done the same for Cruz for this? No?

(51,122 posts)The gold fringe around the United States flag, as displayed in all courts, designates them as Admiralty courts, which cannot hear other kinds of cases, or signal that the court is operating under maritime law. No court has ever upheld this argument, as neither the presence (or absence) of a flag (or of any other standard or element of decor), nor the fringe on a flag (which has no heraldic or vexillological significance), has any bearing whatsoever on the jurisdiction of a court. In United States v. Greenstreet, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas noted:
Defendant Greenstreet's response to Plaintiff's motion for summary judgment identifies this Court as an 'Admiralty Court' without further discussing his allegation. If his reference is to be construed as a jurisdictional challenge, his motion is denied. Others have attempted to persuade the judiciary that fringe on a United States flag denotes a court of admiralty. In light of the fact that this Court has such a flag in its courtroom, the issue is addressed. The concept behind the theory the proponent asserts is that if a courtroom is adorned with a flag which happens to be fringed around the edges, such decor indicates that the court is one of admiralty jurisdiction exclusively. To think that a fringed flag adorning the courtroom somehow limits this Court's jurisdiction is frivolous Unfortunately for Defendant Greenstreet, decor is not a determinant for jurisdiction."[4
