The vaccine reduces disease contraction by about 95% over being unvaccinated.

What was tested pre-emergency authorization was symptomatic disease (of which hosptalization is a small part). Post-use, they tested for prevention of disease and found about the same effectiveness. Comparison of breakthrough cases indicates that if you contract COVID, about the same % end up being serious or causing death. (In other words it doesn't alter the course of the disease - if you happen to be a breakthorugh case.)

Which in a 50% vaccinated community would lead to about 5% of new hospitalizations coming from the vaccinated population.

(.001% is the percent of vaccinated people who are hospitalized (in a particular population, over a period of a few months, when people were still masking), not the percent of hospitalized people who are vaccinated.)

that's approximatly the percentage of vaccinated individuals who actually got seriously ill (in LA, while mitigaton was going on, with people who had been vaccinated for varying lengths of time).

Washington Post had a good regional breakdown comparing vaccination rates with places where people are still being hospitalized or dying. All metrics are worse in communities with lower vaccination rates. That's true of rural conservatives but also some minority and anti-vax communities where they don't seem to trust the vaccines for various reasons.

Most liberal cities/states have higher vaccination rates. It might be a rough summer for the unvaccinated unmasked conservatives who gather indoors for air conditioning when it's hot.

She lost smell/taste and had a bad headache but seems that's been the worst of it so far, thankfully

She's in isolation barracks and I told her to contact the medic if she noticed *any* breathing issues
