Usually I like Kaitlin Collins from CNN, but her last question trying to paint this meeting as

a failure because he didn't free Navalny, and why was he confident things were positive.

His answer was blunt. I never said I was confident, and that if she didn't understand that the meeting by itself was a positive thing, then she was out of touch with how things work.

He also made it clear during the press conference that the Americans being held in Russia are actively being worked on for their release

Of note, CNN comments presented that exchange as it was, they didn't try to repaint it in bias of their reporter.

I believe Biden's last response to her was she didn't know how diplomacy works.

And Biden said more than once during his speech that he didn't know if anything would actually come of some of the stuff they agreed on. I didn't get that he was confident at all.

Just listening to lady in blue on CNN saying Biden was trying to get into Putin's head. About wanting to be a great nation and having trade relations with other nations. If you want to be a power on the world stage... act like it.

It's not really her job to decide if it was a failure or not, and then structure her questions appropriately. It's her job to get Biden to explain how it was either a success, a failure, or something in between. Really, she gave him an opening to make a whole range of points, which is what skillful politicians do.

Biden never said he was "confident" Putin would change his behavior. She knew that. She was acting as if she was catching some blowhard leader (sound familiar) in an exaggeration.

I'm like you, op. I usually like her, too. Her behavior seemed so out of character. President Biden handled it well.

I'm interested to see how it plays across the various CNN shows tonight.
