HAMILTON, Mont. On Tuesday night, the Hamilton City Council approved a motion that carried 4-2 prohibiting painting on pavement and ordering existing paint to be removed.
Mayor Dominic Farrenkopf says the council last week considered a request for a pride flag colored crosswalk to celebrate diversity.
The request came after council members approved a different painted crosswalk project by Bike Walk Bitterroot in May.
Farrenkopf says once the city received a second request for a painted crosswalk, they decided they should make a policy.
City staff put together an application so people could apply to paint on pavement.
Before that item was brought up on Tuesday evening, a counselor made a motion to not allow any painting on pavement in the city of Hamilton and remove all current painting that exists.
