Puppy Rescue Mission needs help bc of the latest ban on dogs imported into the states.

Dear Puppy Rescue Mission Family,

As many of you have likely already seen, the CDC has issued a ban for all dog imports from 113 countries across the world starting July 14th. Many of these countries are where our US military members are deployed to and where we have been working for the last 11 years. We can assure you that we have followed 100% of CDC rules and regulations from day 1 and in nearly 4,000 animals rescued not one of our animals has ever had rabies.

We are devastated by this ban and although we will still be able to assist in some countries and our soldiers’ cats in any country, this will affect our work tremendously. Having to turn soldiers away is so unfair. We as an organization believe in what we do and are going to do all we can to reach out to our politicians as this ban will affect so many animals and people across the world.

We are going to rally and get as many of our current rescues home before July 14th and we will continue to fight and rescue all those that we are legally able to after July 14th. We ask for your support during this difficult time, that we can survive the year and continue the amazing work of assisting our US military with rescuing their battle buddies.

We have received countless thank you notes from family members with stories of how these battle buddies have saved their soldiers from suicide and helped them readjust to civilian life. These animals provide a small sense of normalcy in a land where life is less than ideal. We cannot stop now, the suicide rates among our US military is far too high and they deserve to be able to bring their battle buddies home.

We need you now more than ever…. we will continue to do what we do for as long as we can. Please reach out to your local politicians (link is below with more information on that); we need to get this ban changed and punish those who are not following the rules, not the ones who have been since the start.

With a Heavy Heart,
Anna Cannan - President/Founder
Michelle Smith - Executive Director

1. I had not thought about this side effect of the new law.

I still applaud it since we do not need any pets brought into the US, but I would agree that there should be contingencies for people who already own a pet.

3. The law does make sense, but as you say it has unexpected hurtful consequences.

When I first heard of the ban on the car radio the other day I did not think that far ahead as to how it would affect some in a bad way. Now I see.

2. Are they required to be spayed/neutered before entering the US?

Is this Puppy Rescue Mission aware of the incredible number of unwanted American cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies who cannot find homes before they have to be euthanized to make space in the animal shelters?

I have now met at least two small dogs “rescued from the streets of Mexico” who were imported to SoCal to be pets here. I said nice things, of course, but deep down inside I was asking “Why?!”

The people running the PRM have big, big hearts — but can they please turn their efforts to the big, big problems at home?

Regardless, bless them for their efforts.

4. My understanding is that a service member has bonded with a dog and PRM

facilitates the relocation. I could see that it could be mental health wise supportive to have this accomplished.

A lot of things that were have turned or are turning to crap it seems.

abroad. The soldiers took those animals in and loved and looked after them in countries where often animals are just considered a nuisance. The soldiers probably weren't looking to adopt an animal but the animals must have helped them feel less homesick. Those animals have no one to love or care for them if they're just left there, they'll most likely die.

these animals already have homes with service people who love them ❤️ and have bonded. I hope something can be worked out so they can all be reunited.
