"SNIP.....

President Biden plans later today to sign into law a bill creating a federal holiday to commemorate Juneteenth, the day marking the end of slavery in Texas, the Washington Post reports.

Because June 19 falls on a Saturday this year, most federal employees will get Friday off.

This day off won't be paid for under task funds, it will come from benefit funds, same as all leave funding.

It's a day without work accomplished, true. But it means the task funding will have an extra day's worth of sweep-up funding at the end of the fiscal year, which may keep some people from having to take an unpaid day or two off while they're trying to get funding lined up for next year. Which is always a good thing.

Wonder if they'll give me next Friday off to compensate.
Probably not Monday, though.

This is so last minute, not expected, like the day after Thanksgiving of Christmas Eve might be during the year. Lots of government organizations will be scrambling to get their timekeeping software and procedures fixed to show this new holiday, so a lot of employees and supervisors can expect to have to "correct" timecards next week, especially since tomorrow is the end of the pay period.

Oye, this is sooooo last minute. I feel for my supervisor and budget coordinator who just went on leave.

Ooft. I deal with the federal government for work and actually had a call scheduled for tomorrow.

So happy about the holiday. It's well overdue.

Annoyed this is messing with me with pretty much zero notice.

99% happy!

1% irritated at the moment.
