...she's so frail, and he said to her, "you can have my chair."
She stood there trembling she is so excited, and VP Harris is clutching her hand.
What a scene.

(47,534 posts)I thought his time had passed and I'm sure he did as well, but turned out his time just hadn't come yet. And we benefit, as we get the absolute best version of Joe Biden. For me, it has been a dream come true.
The other dream come true? It is seeing so many people at DU love him as much as I have for years.

(61,695 posts)He didn't go into retirement to sit in a rocking chair until his time was up. He stayed physically and mentally active. Just as an elder, he's someone to look up to.
To Joe.

(25,865 posts)I miss a lot, and I have no idea who she is, although I'm sure she is very important in this context.
I'll add that I'm Caucasian. All four grandparents came here well after the end of slavery. But I try very hard to understand that my being American includes things like slavery.
I'm very glad Juneteenth will now be a National Holiday. It's honestly a shame not more people get all of the federal holidays off.
I wonder how, going forward, this will be observed. I sincerely hope it does not just become another day off from work.
Also, will the holiday be celebrated on the day itself, or (more likely) on the Monday closest to that date. Personally, if I were in charge, I'd make more holidays on a specific date, but alas, I am not in charge.

Woo hoo! Ive got so many different feelings all gurgling up here, I dont know what to call them all, she said after watching U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lees announcement Wednesday night. Im so delighted to know that finally weve got a Juneteenth bill passed.
Miss Opal is a lifelong activist who walked from her home in Fort Worth to Washington D.C. five years ago to campaign for a federal Juneteenth holiday.

(16,268 posts)No worries. I did watch it and damn near cried..Im a white woman aware of this struggle to acknowledge this important date. My question is..will schools be able to explain to the kids why we celebrate this holiday or will it be lumped in with the other whitewashing of our history? I keep thinking I need to pinch myself after 4 years of madness..but, thankfully, Im awake and so proud and will hit the bricks again for the next election cycle.
