To which I agree. It's a nice story, and if it makes people feel better, then why should anyone else care?

(3,054 posts)Is a rainbow bridge too an insulting metaphor for grief- Ill never know. Whats your idea for a better way to describe the way death of someone you loved died?
If you hurt after you someone you loved died we should all just get back to work knowing or thinking the deceased had a good life? Ill take all the time i need to morn and any helpful metaphors to get through it.
Comfort for those who in morning is compassion. It is respect for their loss. The French have a saying beginnings are wonderful.

(14,061 posts)Speaking from experience. The grief and tears are REAL. You need the solace of a peaceful image.
Just callous.

(14,061 posts)Still struggling with it. She was partially paralyzed by a common disc issue, but lived life to the max. The image of her running and playing, and waiting for us, is a comfort.
If anyone cant understand that, pet owner or not, well, I just dont know what. Its just basic empathy and compassion. Dont belittle the way people deal with loss.

(5,751 posts)"I can look in my dogs eyes and know that he will give his life to protect mine."
I felt the same way about my Rottweiler. Bought her when she could hold her in one arm, watched her die on a Korean street in my arms when her leash broke, got scared, and ran into the street. She was raised in my arms, and died in my arms.
I've had to put down two terminally ill dogs (cancer and tick fever) and had two die in my arms prematurely.
There is no greater bond that a four legged barking fur person and its owner.
I know how Pres. Biden feels.

(28,126 posts)Close to true here. I'm married and have an adult offspring but my dogs have shown me more unbounded, unconditional love. I truly love & adore intelligent dogs!
It's "an interspecies bond like no other" to quote an article on human-dog relationships.
The same article quoted a study done on human brains using MRI scans which showed the same areas of the brain lit up when humans thought about their dogs as when they thought about other family members. They did not find the same true for cats.

(5,751 posts)Dogs exhibit the bond and loyalty that we has humans strive to for each other.
To put it simply, dogs are the best of our personalities that too man never show.
Dogs are humans at their best. Remember, when they do something wrong, there is no lying in their eyes. Just youtube "guilty dog" videos.

(51,626 posts)My baby died a year ago and I am still miserable. I have 100% empathy.
I did listen to people who have had near death experiences and have gone into the light tunnel and a couple have said there are animals all over, and tons of dogs. One older man came back for a little bit after his NDE and he told his son that he saw his childhood dog there with the rest of his deceased friends and family. He died a few hours later but his son was glad to hear this about his beloved pet.
Being with our furbabies again will certainly be Heaven for many of us.

(22,567 posts)departed. I recently saw a video of some readings in Australia and he described his very first encounter with an animal spirit. He told the lady her daughter was there and said the daughter had suffered from severe mobility problems. He also expressed puzzlement that as the daughter conveyed her memories of her life, everything was from a low, more ground level perspective. The lady said, "That's because you're communicating with my dog!" That dog spirit felt so loved, so a part of the family, that John took it for a human daughter!!!

(2,328 posts)Well,screw science.
StarryNite
(9,460 posts)More and more is learned every day about all kinds of things because of science and new tools that allow for discovery. It wasn't until 1665 that the cell was discovered due to a better microscope. Before that people had no idea what a cell was or that every living thing was made up of something so small that it couldn't be seen until 1665. I suspect that before cells were discovered there would have been a lot of people who would have denied their existence because there was no way to prove it. My point is that we just don't know it all. New discoveries are being made all the time. So who knows what awesome revelations await mankind?

(30,540 posts)and we just need to believe even though it can't be explained.
BigmanPigman
(51,626 posts)and religions fill our heads with all kinds of stories and images. I believe the people who experience these things. People are such skeptics when it comes to this stuff and that is one of the main reasons we don't know much about it, even if we did have the tools to understand it. It is the closed off minds of some individuals who make us feel embarrassed to even begin to discuss very real experiences that aren't understood yet. It reminds me of the UFos (or what ever they are called now). The pilots of planes filmed them so more people are willing to believe their existence now when they didn't before.
