Employers face greater cybersecurity risks as workers return to the office
Work laptops and phones have spent nearly 16 months at home, potentially connecting to Internet of Things devices like smart speakers, fridges, watches and personal phones.
And now, as more employees return to the office and bring connected devices with them, companies must consider new threats to network security.
The transition from home to work opens up attack surfaces and its a concern of companies like Microsoft. Left unprotected, data can flow back and forth between work devices and those on home networks, bringing threats in or taking sensitive information out.
Microsoft, for example, has been investing more into cybersecurity over the past few years, with acquisitions of ReFirm Labs and CyberX to bolster its Azure Defender products. Earlier in 2021, the company's Exchange Servers were breached, alerting Microsoft to the increased risk of firmware attacks.
