I feel for her. I do.
Yet she has been the lead story every damn hour today.
Enough. This is why I stopped watching CNN years ago when they covered Natalee Holloway 24/7 for months.

(24,300 posts)I feel somewhat the same. But I also think the worst thing that could happen to her, given she makes a living on her popularity, would be for the media to stop talking about her. I like that she got a chance to say what she said in court, and I hope it works out for her.

(5,857 posts)and has a conservator (guardian by another name) in CA. She can do anything that her guardian thinks is in her best interest -- which includes performing since 2008, but he retains the money and decides how its spent. According to her testimony, he is also preventing her from marrying or having an IUD removed.

(26,080 posts)TOTAL. Since 2008. He doles her out an allowance that is half what he pays himself. She is not allowed to take out her IUD (ie she has to use the BC he wants her to). She is not allowed to marry. He has to approve her friends. He does not allow her to register to vote. He makes her go to the doctors he chooses, including making her take lithium, which she states makes her "drunk," even though other doctors who have reviewed her records say is not the correct meds for her. Yet, he makes sure she tours and makes music so he has lots of money. He has sold his home and now lives in a huge RV in a warehouse filled with her property.
There's more, too.
She is 39. Her mental breakdown was decades ago. She is okay with a financial trust being set up with a wholly neutral trustee, but she wants her life back, and she should.
It is all disgusting. Again, she was estranged from her father for good reason before he was named as her fucking dictator.
It is an important story, because this happens all the time to non-celebs, and it is an abuse of the system.
Compare Jamie Spears to Amanda Bynes parents, who are not in it to explot and abuse their kid.

(9,291 posts)I had a mental ill brother. We had to get a judge to sign things, to get him in for help and back on his meds. We never did this to him. This is 2021, and Brittany doesnt even know what legally is file against her because they dont tell her. She cant even get her own attorney. No one knows if she was declared incompetent, but she can work 8 shows a week in Vegas.
Sorry, this is more then creepy.

(32,086 posts)The lead story this morning is an apartment building collapse. Brittany got pushed way down the list, albeit, not far enough.
I feel for her, too. But, I agree it doesn't deserve the kind of attention it's getting.

(10,014 posts)I hope she can get out from under her father's control. I've read too many histories about how women were gasllghted by controlling fathers and husbands to find this trivial.

(32,086 posts)It's being treated as a tabloid story. GMA spent more time covering Justin Timberlake's comments alone than they did the any of the other headline stories, such as apartment collapse and COVID. They barely mentioned anything about disabled rights. In fact, I don't recall that they mentioned them at all.
obamanut2012
(26,080 posts)I don't watch "tabloidy" entertainment like GMA it The View. Timberlake was also abusive to her.
