Laura Ingraham Wants Military Defunded Over General Milley's Critical Race Theory Defense

Laura Ingraham Wants Military Defunded Over General Milley's Critical Race Theory Defense

The Fox News host described the Joint Chiefs chairman's comments about the academic theory—which examines the ways race and racism intersect with politics, culture and the law—as "ridiculous."

In a Wednesday night segment on her show The Ingraham Angle, she said: "We are sending out tax dollars to this military in an attempt to weed out so-called 'extremists,' which just means conservative evangelicals as far as I can tell.

"We're paying for that? Why is Congress not saying: 'We're not going to give you a penny until all of this is eradicated from the military budget. Nothing. This is my offer to you. Nothing.'"

-snip-

She later added: "I have a question for the general: why would anyone risk his or her life for a country that's systemically racist? One that brutalizes minorities.

"Why would any country respect us or follow our lead if that's who we are? Those are some of the questions he should probably think about before he touts the value of teaching far-left, Marxist, racist ideology to our troops."

-snip-

Newsweek has contacted Fox News, Rep. Gaetz and the Department of Defense for comment.

" why would anyone risk his or her life for a country that's systemically racist? One that brutalizes minorities" - exactly the question Gens Austin and Milley are trying to answer, and at the same time, trying to eliminate racism from the armed forces.

Enlisting in '72 was the first time I got to live with PoC besides high school. It was a good opportunity to find out what was so different about us all. What I learned was: not so much. The armed forces, at least while I was in, was a great place to learn how to get along.

He defended being widely-read and open-minded and said he wanted to study why there is "white rage".
Did I miss something or is the Newsweek headline wrong?

{O}n the issue of critical race theory, etc., a lot of us have to get much smarter on whatever the theory is. But I do think it’s important, actually, for those of us in uniform, to be open minded and be widely read. And the United States Military Academy is a university.
...
I personally find it offensive that we are accusing the United States military — our general officers, our commissioned and non-commissioned — of being ‘woke’ or something else because we’re studying some theories that are out there while calling out those who have criticized military officials as “woke” for entertaining the theory based on the idea that systemic racism exists in America.

[Critical race theory] was started at Harvard Law School years ago and proposed that there were laws in the United States prior to the Civil War that led to a power differential with African Americans that were three-quarters of a human being when this country was formed. We had a Civil War and an Emancipation Proclamation to change it. We brought it up in the Civil Rights Act. It took another 100 years to change that. I do want to know. I respect your service and we’re both Green Berets, but I want to know. It matters to the discipline and cohesion of this military.”

RWers aka GOP want the United States of America Military de-funded.

Louder again, republican congresscritters do not want any type of investigation pursued of the January 6, 2021 insurrection. Further, again louder, republicans have nor ever had any respect for the police force and that "Blue Lives Matters" was a farce.

Now, sane Americans that believe in democracy are being threatened.

Do you consider Randi Rhodes to be weaker minded? If you don't know who Randi Rhodes is, she is a left leaning radio host. She was on Air America with Rachel Maddow and Al Franken. She has had her own syndicated show for years.

She did not attack CRT itself, but she has been saying on her show the last few days, how "horrible" a name Critical Race Theory is. So much so that I had to write in and challenge her. She hasn't responded to me yet. It seems like she is buying into the Right Wing framing at least in the name. She was even talking about "thinking critically" while still saying the name was horrible.

The Theory and the Name have been around since the 70's and 80's. No one of consequence has had a problem with it until just last month or so when this onslaught by right wing astro turf groups started.

I don't think anybody should argue with reducing the Pentagon budget a bit and diverting the money elsewhere, but CRT has nothing to do with it. Gen Milley was generally defending the concept of a well educated officer corps, which is a good idea. I suspect what Ms Ingraham was proposing was more in line with the purges done by Stalin in the 1930's for ideological reasons, which contributed mightily to what the Germans accomplished in their initial invasion in 1941.

This is the overriding issue our country faces. When you get to the heart of it - all individuals have more in common than they do differences.

We'd all like to have some security in our marriages and their jobs. We'd like to see opportunities for their children through solid education. We'd like to see the country grow and our neighbors grow along with it. We'd like to retire with some measure of comfort and not worry about losing everything if we get sick.

It's when you have a large group of assholes actively pitting one group against another to move their shitty agendas forward that you get get shit like this. Us versus them is a terrible way to go through life - and gets in the way of living better lives.

I've tried to explain this to more conservative members in my family and it never goes well. Even among the most christian of them, it falls on deaf ears and cold hearts.

It's saddening and maddening that we live like this.

It's really a shame that Laura has her head too far up her ass to realize the significance of those questions, and the only solution she can come up with is to continue lying to herself and her audience.

I don't know, Laura. Why have citizens been doing this from the country's founding? Why, to paraphrase Muhammad Ali, should Black Americans kill Brown and Asian people in defense of an "America that was never America to me"? Why should Navajo Peoples - descendants of the Code Talkers - serve a military that has literally tried to exterminate Indigenous Americans for centuries? Laura, the only people who won't want to serve a military that considers a systemic theory on racial constructs are the fucking white racists who love defining reality for the rest of us.

... doesn't it make sense for our political and military leaders to read and study Marxism to better understand the nature of the threat in order to develop the best strategies for defeating it?

Of course, Faux News pundits like Laura Ingraham aren't the least bit interested in understanding or communicating the true nature of things.

In fact, they depend on and promulgate ignorance to better manipulate their audience with boogeyman to fear, constantly using "Marxism" and "Critical Race Theory" as cudgels to smear their opponents without any regard whatsoever as to the meaning of the terms or if they actually apply.

That is what American "conservatism" and the Republican Party have become -- a cauldron of lies and false propaganda crafted to maintain power and advance careers.

No ethics or decency whatsoever.
