(25,939 posts)I saw the cameras cut briefly to show Gaetz making childishly peevish faces, and I knew he had no military service.

The difference between the military and @mattgaetz is that when the military fucks you, youre at least 18.

With Generals like this its no wonder weve fought considerably more wars than weve won.

(11,738 posts)The US has been at war or in military conflict for all but around 16 years of its existence. The military has been successful in achieving its aims in the vast majority of those conflicts. It wasn't until after WW2, when clear victory in limited conflicts, and the idea of "nation building" took hold, that the military became involved in conflicts where "victory" was not achieved. The War of 1812 was a stalemate, The wars against the Indigenous Peoples, The Mexican-American War, The Spanish-American War, WWI, WW2... all victories. We stalemated in Korea, but maintained the Republic of Korea. In Vietnam, we stepped into a conflict that was centuries old for stupid reasons and there was no path to clear victory except annihilating the whole of North Vietnam, which would have brought China and Russia into the conflict. We achieved military victory in Iraq, but like most other colonial powers, we underestimated the situation in the Middle East. Same with Afghanistan. We should have left when Bin Laden did, or at least when we finally caught and killed him.
Again though, Gaetz is full of shit. He knows nothing

(4,898 posts)The Professional Reading Lists are books that are considered required reading for military personnel looking to move up the ranks.
Books that are on that list include the Mao Zedong essays, Sun Tzu, and others that review past conflicts. These lists includes books that do not shine the best light on the US's past wars, which are placed there as lessons learned.
Matt will be disappointed that Art of the Deal, Atlas Shrugged, Mein Kampf, and the screeds by Limbaugh, Ingraham, Hannity, Levin, and other conservative mouthpieces are not on those lists. He'll really be disappointed to hear that his favorite book by Nabokov is also not on those lists.

(111,261 posts)All I saw in his ugly face was anger at having Gen. Milley's time extended. He really thought he'd shut Milley down with another stupid Republican "gotcha."
His skin is thin and he lacks a poker face, so the more pins that can be poked in him, the sooner he will crack.
