A grandmother from Indiana who participated in the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, was sentenced Wednesday to three years of probation for her involvement in the riot, ABC News reports.
Morgan-Lloyd posted on Facebook after the attack that it was the "best ... day ever," per ABC News.
I am so disappointed in this sentencing. Maybe I should not be, but I am.

(146,316 posts)The key is what the terms of that probation are. Violation of probation terms can send you to prison. Sensible people take such terms seriously, to avoid that consequence. While we would all like to see prison sentences, most courts prefer to use probation for convicted people who have no prior convictions. That's pretty standard.

(15,751 posts)My take is this soft sentence, with cooperation/probation, is the feds have put out great bait for potential flipppers.

(15,751 posts)5 days ago Marcy Wheeler predicted Ann Morgan-Floyd would get a light sentence, for a good reason.
Actually, Wheeler listed multiple reasons, but I think one was key: Morgan-Lloyd's cooperation.

(8,330 posts)by her admission she was one of the first 50 people in the building, that was no stroll in the park. she had to have been told MANY times that this was an illegal activity, she did not leave, she continued to participate and then brag about it posting her attack on the Capitol. When facing jail time, she found religion. fuck her....she deserves time

(15,617 posts)She was nonviolent, with no stated intentions to stop certification or overthrow the government, plead guilty, and provided access to her social media and photos of January 6.
IIRC, she was only charged with misdemeanor trespass, so three years probation is probably an above average sentence.

(1,109 posts)I have read the comments herein and the details presented by Dr. Marcy Wheeler and (if I were the judge...which I am clearly NOT) I would have sentenced (the perpetrator) Ann Morgan-Floyd to no less than one year in a federal prison in addition to the sentence she actually received.

(8,330 posts)poster it was the " BEST DAY EVER" went to get a gun permit the week after the armed insurrection, but was actually a book report doing poor grandmother. I am sure the gun permit was to help keep the peace at her next armed uprising.

(21,106 posts)insurrectionist. Even if for a short period of time, she should be put behind bars for being a part of an insurrection and then bragging about it as the best day of her life. She got off easy IMO....and probably bragging about it now.

(65,044 posts)But, I can't.
She pled guilty & this was a misdemeanor.
Accept the plea deal and reserve resources for the felons, the violent & those that conspired to commit sedition.
She's small potatoes. They should treat her accordingly.
If we start seeing pretend warriors, flagpole wielding cop beaters, and pepper sprayers getting off easy, I'll be totally on board with you.
