BREAKING: Rudy Giuliani's law license has been suspended.
A disciplinary body says he made "demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump."

Such a spectacular fall from grace. Nearly 20 years ago he was respected nationwide. What happened? Did his fame turn him into this lunatic? Books will be written for sure.

Somebody needs to light a few fires under the ABA. Giuliani was the highest profile wackadoodle but he's hardly alone.

(145,288 posts)Rudys license was suspended solely based on complaint with no hearing. This is not normal. There is so much evidence that Rudy will have a hard time reversing this order. This will be fun to watch

(2,785 posts)Hopefully this a step towards disbarment. Wish they would've done this years ago.

(14,854 posts)I was recently reading about the supposed obligation of prosecuting attorneys to pursue truth over unjust convictions (as opposed to defense attorneys seeking rulings of innocence even if they know their clients are guilty), and Giuliani came to mind as I was reading it.

Btw, I'm happy to hear it, of course, but for shame, NY, that it wasn't done years ago. No guts, no integrity.
Tomconroy
(7,611 posts)Usually there are rules for reciprocity. I don't know if that applies if it is an interim suspension.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)in 2018 he was NOT licensed in FL when he was allowed to help represent a scummy friend there. So likely still not licensed in FL.
The lead defendant for the woman, Steve Rossi, told CNN that he had never worked with Giuliani before and that the former New York City mayor was involved in the case because he knew the woman and family. ... Rossi noted that Giuliani did not mention that he was Trumps lawyer in court. Giuliani is not licensed to practice law in Florida but, according to court documents analyzed by CNN, he requested to work the case two weeks after it was announced he would join Trumps legal team. In his request, he used the Manhattan address of the law firm he recently announced he is leaving. He was granted permission to work the case on May 8.
Justice matters.

(65,053 posts)I read elsewhere that disbarment requires hearings, a suspension is applied to prevent the practice of law while a disbarment process takes place.
The way I interpreted it, was that they're pretty sure he's being disbarred so they suspend the license so he can do no more professional damage until he's officially a "non-lawyer".
