disappointed.Advisers to former President Donald Trump were reportedly hoping his battle with COVID-19 last year would give him a "newfound appreciation for the seriousness" of the virus only for it to ultimately become clear he "hadn't changed at all."
A new excerpt from the book Nightmare Scenario published Thursday in The Washington Post describes the "extraordinary effort to get Trump lifesaving drugs" when he contracted COVID-19 and was hospitalized in October 2020. According to the book, Trump's medical advisers hoped during this time that his illness "would inspire him to take the virus seriously." They hoped he would "emerge from Walter Reed a changed man" after receiving this "wake-up call," with the advisers seeing this as a "last chance" to turn the country's COVID-19 response around, and "some even began mentally preparing to finally speak their minds."
In fact, according to the book, then-CDC Director Robert Redfield "prayed that [Trump] would emerge from the experience with a newfound appreciation for the seriousness of the threat," hoping he would urge all Americans to listen to public health experts "before it was too late." But the book describes how in actuality, Trump "emerged from the experience triumphant and ever more defiant," releasing a video telling Americans they shouldn't let COVID-19 "take over your lives."
According to the book, Redfield's hopes for a dramatic pivot from Trump were dashed in real time as he watched the president return to the White House from his COVID-19 hospitalization and almost immediately remove his mask.

His enablers wanted soooooooooo badly for Trump to act human. Just ONCE while in office. He hasn't. He won't. That's why he's a one-term, twice impeached President.

That is stupid beyond belief.
There is no pivot.
There is no change.
There is no growing up, getting more serious, being adult, working hard.
There is just vile, crass, mean spirited, unending narcissism, laziness, and stupidity.
Forever.
Until he is dead.

President Donald Trump, who contracted the coronavirus earlier this month, floated an idea to surprise observers by ripping open his button-down shirt to reveal a Superman t-shirt underneath, according to a New York Times report published Saturday.
Trump made several calls during his stay at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center last week, in which he proposed the idea of first appearing physically weak to observers, people familiar with the matter reportedly said. Upon leaving the hospital, he would rip open his dress shirt to reveal a shirt with the famous Superman logo, according to The Times.
Trump announced he was diagnosed with the coronavirus on Friday, October 2. By the next night, he was transported to Walter Reed and began taking remdesivir, an anti-viral drug. He was also given an experimental antibody cocktail from the drugmaker Regeneron, and later placed on the steroid dexamethasone.
During Trump's three-day stay at the hospital, contradicting narratives on his prognosis emerged. Unnamed Trump advisors and other associates reportedly described him as being "very tired, very fatigued and having some trouble breathing," according to CNN. Others have claimed the rumors were exaggerated.
