This is big: Senior official tells NPR the White House is informing both Congress and the Afghan government that it will relocate thousands of Afghan citizens – 20,000 to 100,000 – who worked for the US government before the official exit date of US troops 9/11. @NPR

The story is reported by colleague @TBowmanNPR, whose source is a senior administration official. It's not clear where the thousands go initially, though there is talk of the US possession of Guam.

1. Oh, Jesus ... if we have THAT many people to protect, and we going to clear them out

of the country because they might get slaughtered ... that is bad, bad news.

Sounds like an acceptance we're just turning the country back over to the Taliban.

Maybe we shouldn't be leaving if the situation is that dire?

7. What are we going to do with all those people? And how much will it cost?

If a few 1000 troops being there is protecting the lives of 100,000 people, it might be worth staying for.

If there's plans to bring them to US territory, their lives are going to become a political football, and open Biden up to constant criticism ... I mean, it's going to create a TON of problems because there's no 'good answer'. People on the left will say they're not being treated well enough, and the right will attack relentlessly over everything involving them.

Although I don't support leaving them there to be slaughtered ... this is bad news politically.

They won't be citizens of the USA yet, but damn I can imagine the brains of those wild and woolly GOPs who will automatically freak the eff out.

They should all be offered a path to US citizenship for their service to our country. They are more patriotic than those chicken hawk republicans. Texas has the warm climate they are used to. How about near the Bushes in Dallas since W is responsible for this mess we are in.

remember the outrage about the "boat people" Vietnamese who came here after Vietnam. They were ridiculed and mocked but persevered and opened businesses and made Texas a better place.

Bring'em!!

We are taking 20-100 thousand people out of their country for helping us. We should at least have them go to Dearborn where there are many middle eastern people who can help transition and have a bit of the culture they will undoubtedly miss. That is the only solution that makes sense.

But Guam? Good lord. The US Mainland has lots of empty spaces.

That they could have just been abandoned after risking EVERYTHING was evil, vile, and disgusting.

10. I'm sure if any of them have family/friends in safe areas the US will pay to get them there

That's a given I would think.

Yes it is far better to help them and get them out of there but ... what to do with that many people is going to be a political minefield for Biden.

I'm sure they're working hard to get our allies to help with the housing burden.
