A first offense for drug possession rarely results in any jail time. Specifically, the presumptive sentence for fourth-degree controlled substance possession is one year and a day, stayed (no jail time as long as they don't commit other crimes). A person might get the maximum only if there were a number of other prior or concurrent offenses involved (sale or distribution, sale to a minor, use of a firearm, multiple prior convictions). It's always good to read the fine print and not try to compare apples to rutabagas. https://mn.gov/msgc-stat/documents/Guidelines/2019/MinnSentencingGuidelinesCommentary.pdf

...drug possession. That's double, not lower.

Extrapolating, he can get out after 2/3 of his sentence, which would be after 15 years. If the drug possessor get the max (most likely not) he/she would get out after 10 years.

Personally, I wouldn't want to spend one day in prison.

Fourth degree possession or sale of a controlled substance is another serious felony offense under Minnesota statutes. The crime is punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $100,000 fine. And while a prison sentence is not common for first-time offenders, there are other very serious consequences that result from a felony drug conviction.

Also if I recall math, 22.5 is greater than 15

usual or normal or average sentence for 4th degree drug possession is over 22.5 years, your statement is clearly false.

For a diversionary program which would avoid a conviction entirely. That's pretty common in states these days.
