General Discussion

Today my throat began to hurt. Than the side of my tongue on the side with the throat pain.
Two reasons I am scared.
I went without a mask in a sparsely inhabited Lowe's the other day( I am fully vaccinated).
The other reason is because I have a huge bone spur in my neck if my throat swells it will make it so I cannot drink, water just swirls around and goes nowhere I have to spit it out. Eventually after that the swelling will affect my breathing as it slowly gets cut off .
And it's a trip in an ambulance to the ER to stop the swelling.
I haven't had a sore throat in a long, long time. In fact last time I had a sore throat, I had to go to the ER.
So I don't know how bad this will get or when.
I don't want to be scared but I am.
Don't want to go to an ER full of covid patients with delta.
That scares me too.
Fuck.
Wish me luck y'all.
I just hope it goes away.

(22,483 posts)from it. Someone posted something here about people getting Covid after vaccination and it talked about people dying but they didn't print the part that most of those deaths weren't from Covid! The actual % of deaths was way below 1%. I think you have a greater chance of dying from a car accident.
Vaccines work. That's why no one worries about Polio anymore. They just work.

(34,075 posts)reported by members of DU (or 1st degree relatives) in people who have been fully vaccinated.
Vaccinated individuals who get COVID die at approximately the same rate from COVID as unvaccinated individuals (~2%). I have not seen any specific data on cases severe enough to require hospitalization - but since the death rate is the same in breakthrough cases as it is in those who have not been vaccinated, it stands to reason that the hospitalizations will be equivalent too.
What IS true is that the chance of coming down with COVID is reduced by 95%. That's a pretty effective vaccine - but it isn't perfect. For every 100 unvaccinated people who come down with COVID, 5 vaccinated individuals will come down with COVID. And in those 5, the disease will run pretty much the same course as it would even if they were not vaccinated.
It is irresponsible to tell someone that if they get COVID they will not get very sick. It is just not true - and encourages people to ignore symptoms of COVID until the case is advanced enough to be unable to avoid a severe case or death.

(22,483 posts)This is from the CDC trials
"In the clinical trials, no participants who received a COVID-19 vaccine died from COVID-19; the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson/Janssen trials among adults ≥18 years each had COVID-19 deaths in the placebo arm."

(202 posts)Based on a June 25th article at CNBC, so far this year, 3365 people have been hospitalized for Covid-19 in spite of being fully vaccinated. 750 fully vaccinated people have died from Covid-19 in "break-through" cases in the US since January. .
The same CNBC article quotes a doctor as saying you are more likely to be killed by a meteorite than to die from breakthrough Covid. It is unclear that any human has ever been killed by a meteorite. The confirmable facts to date are meteorites, 0; breakthrough Covid-19, 750.
To date 604,000 Americans have died from Covid-19. More than 350,000 Americans died of Covid-19 in 2020. That means 254,000 Americans have died of Covid-19 so far (not yet 6 months) in 2021.
And now, the delta variant and other variants are inevitable because of the millions of people across the world who are infected or are at risk.
Roughly 38,000 Americans die annually in car accidents, but car accidents aren't a contagion you pass to your friends and family. Polio still occurs in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
UndergroundPanther, you are probably fine and you will be fine. Can you call your doctor? Can you get a Covid test without going to the ER? I am sorry not to be more positive about your situation, but it upsets me that people behave and talk as if we can go right back to the "before" times.
Everyone, please keep wearing your masks, please. Everywhere. You must know that the anti-science, anti-vaxxers didn't wear masks before and they sure aren't wearing them now. Covid-19 is still a pandemic and it will be with us for a long time.

Most illnesses are not Covid. Especially if you are vaccinated. You probably are coming down with a cold.

we are all still suffering from this awful cold virus
have decided that I may never go maskless again

(21,487 posts)from medical care if you need it.
Second, where are you that makes you fear that the hospital is full of covid patients?
Third, you are not being paranoid to be aware of your health. You are being sensible to notice and take care of any health concerns.
Sending healing vibes your way, from me and the rest of DU.

Before the medicine I thought I might die... I couldn't swallow anything, not even water. The medicine worked very well. After a week or two I was 95% better, and still am.
As they say on TV, ask your doctor if OMEPRAZOLE is right for you.
Sending love & good vibes to you.

(12,480 posts)I have a huge bone spur in my cervical spine. It takes up room in my neck so that when my throat swells it makes me unable to drink. If it swells more it starts choking my breathing out.
I need to get it removed but can't find an orthopedic surgeon that takes medical assistance in Harford county.
I don't drive so getting to appointments is an all day affair as our bus system sucks and medical assistance cabs suck.
As I search for a orthopedic surgeon that does not exist. I am in danger if my throat swells past a certain limit .
I am hoping it's not strep.
Strep swells my throat.
Last time I was at the ER it was strep that sent me there.

(8,924 posts)Not a doctor, but I've had cervical spine surgery, done by a hospital neurosurgeon.
Can you try getting a neurologist to put you in the hospital for the surgery, then maybe the hospital can take your medical assistance.
Hope you'll be okay.

(7,077 posts)Since u r vaxxed. Get the COVID test at a doctor or clinic, see if u have the antibodies, and if u do, lay low for a few weeks and avoid transmitting it.

(254 posts)time you went without a mask, maybe theres a chance you were exposed to something that aggravated an allergy that was previously protected by your mask. I have seasonal allergies and lately Ive been taking my mask off when leaving a store, whereas before I would keep it on all the way to my car. That little bit of exposure has aggravated my allergies lately.
Just a thought. I hope you are well today.
