In my google news feed below the search box, every day there are clickbait stories that are no more than speculation on this.
You am not getting one.
Where do you think you are, Canada or one of the other developed countries that actually gives a fuck about their citizens?

(13,424 posts)That's nothing to sneeze at and is a nice stimulus on its own.

(19,572 posts)When you put that in context of the economic disparity in this country.

(13,424 posts)If you want to make a case for other types of stimulus or government tax credits, have at it. This is a targeted tax credit with specific criteria. People need to look at this tax credit as being for the greater good even if they dont qualify for it. Instead people seem to have sour grapes about being excluded almost to the point of nobody should receive this tax credit if they dont receive it. I dont qualify for this tax credit and I think this credit is great. In fact, we should be doing more to help parents with dependent minors.

(1,439 posts)I don't think anywhere else gave out thousands of dollars of stimulus to, what, 85% of the country?

(1,439 posts)Don't be mysterious. You told me to "think again" like you know of a country that gave out thousands of dollars of general stimulus to nearly the entire country. What country were you thinking of?
Betty88
(717 posts)I'm not going to google for you.
mathematic
(1,439 posts)I'm not asking you to google anything. I'm asking you to share the information about the countries that you alluded to when you responded to my original post.
Unless you didn't actually have any information about other countries providing more general stimulus to nearly their entire countries. But then why would you suggest I was wrong if you didn't have any information, without googling, to suggest otherwise? No, really, why would you do that?

(1,439 posts)Whenever I see a comment about how other countries gave out more stimulus they're comparing other countries enhanced unemployment benefits to our general stimulus while also ignoring our enhanced unemployment benefits.
I haven't tried to figure out exactly how many people got enhanced unemployment benefits in any country but the brief peak of unemployment was around 15% here, so the enhanced unemployment benefits went to nowhere near the 85% of people I roughly estimated that got the general stimulus.

(4,371 posts)however unlikely.
Personally, I think Democrats should push through a bill for a small "basic income", perhaps only equal to an amount that would come from the Snap "foodstamps" program, for those under a certain income....
Perhaps an amount that might not even be considered 'basic' by most, but enough to feed you.... as a very small pushback against income inequality--- and raise corporate taxes a bit to pay for that. The vast majority of the American public, including a majority of rank-and-file Republicans, believe that corporations and the rich should be paying more, anyway...

(1,261 posts)the government giving you assistance and breaks of any kind is SOCIALISM and we can't have that.
I am honestly surprised the GOP isn't squealing like injured pigs over the Child Tax Credit. Its their mission to make sure every fetus makes it out of the womb, but taking care of them once there here? SOCIALISM!

(28,079 posts)I had to pay in because taxes weren't withheld from the $600/week that was paid last summer. I made the mistake of paying as soon as I did my taxes, then the Recovery Act passed and $10,200 in unemployment was made not taxable. IRS instructtions were to not file an amended return, they would take care of adjusting returns. Supposedly they started this in May starting with "simple" returns (and what is simpler than single/standard deduction?). It's impossible to get through to them to find out what's going on & without a refund amount the "where's my refund" function doesn't work.
