William Barr Speaks

In the final months of the administration, the doggedly loyal attorney general finally had enough.

By Jonathan D. Karl

6:00 AM ET

Donald Trump is a man consumed with grievance against people he believes have betrayed him, but few betrayals have enraged him more than what his attorney general did to him. To Trump, the unkindest cut of all was when William Barr stepped forward and declared that there had been no widespread fraud in the 2020 election, just as the president was trying to overturn Joe Biden’s victory by claiming that the election had been stolen.

In a series of interviews with me this spring, Barr spoke, for the first time, about the events surrounding his break with Trump. I have also spoken with other senior officials in the Trump White House and Justice Department, who provided additional details about Barr’s actions and the former president’s explosive response. Barr and those close to him have a reason to tell his version of this story. He has been widely seen as a Trump lackey who politicized the Justice Department. But when the big moment came after the election, he defied the president who expected him to do his bidding.

Barr’s betrayal came on December 1, over lunch in the attorney general’s private dining room with Michael Balsamo, a Justice Department beat reporter at the Associated Press. Also in attendance were the DOJ chief of staff, Will Levi, and spokesperson Kerri Kupec. Balsamo was not told the reason for the invitation. When Barr dropped his bombshell between bites of salad, he mumbled, and Balsamo wasn’t sure that he had caught what the attorney general had said.

“Just to be crystal clear,” Balsamo asked, “are you saying—”

I always wondered if it had anything to with his father being the person that gave Jeffery Epstein his first real exposure to underage children by hiring him to teach at Dalton. Far out there, I know, but with 45, it's like the fall of Rome and the dark ages in four years. The Biden/Harris administration is the enlightenment.

to Explode with Rage over the "betrayal" of actually telling the Truth for once about ..

A rather important time to finally tell the truth that helped Squash TTP plans to Overturn the Election.

to begin with. Who knows how many other things after.

This piece is nothing more than an effort on Barr's part to preserve a shred of personal respectability. He enabled The Rump until the very end when he knew The Rump could not possibly pull off his biggest attempted scam. There is no respectability in that.

that to the Attorney General of the United States because he decided at the last minute to obey the law and his oath of office and not participate in a coup to bring down our democracy?

Is that the depth to which the MAGA regime has sunk this nation?

You know what an ethical lawyer would have done, Mr. Barr? Of course you don't. Seven months later you employ the very sympathetic ear of one Jonathan D. Karl to peddle the story of how you were so tough standing up to the President way back when. And Karl is more than happy to earn his paycheck by giving you a platform and hype his forthcoming book.

Meanwhile, the former guy is still lying about the 2020 election, as recently as yesterday's ego-fluffing rally.

At people talking about history will do this or that to these criminals. Barr, said “fuck history, I will be dead”. They all feel the exact way. Not One of them give a damn about history. They are rewriting it in our face. At the rate and willingness to destroy us all, (note: they are not destroying earth, it will thrive when we are extinct) they do not expect humans to be here to judge anything. So greed now, and enjoy riches and power before there is nothing left?
MAGA Christians are praying for and eagerly willing to bring on end days. Anxious for their mansions and streets of gold. How boring will that be to em without NASCAR’ Wresslin’ and Budweiser in flag cans. Oh my GOD, I think guns are not allowed up there either.😱😱🤬🤬🥵🥵😩😩

“You know, you only have five weeks, Mr. President, after an election to make legal challenges,” Barr said. “This would have taken a crackerjack team with a really coherent and disciplined strategy. Instead, you have a clown show. No self-respecting lawyer is going anywhere near it. It’s just a joke. That’s why you are where you are.”

Interestingly, Trump didn’t argue when Barr told him that his “clown show” legal team had wasted time. In fact, he said, “You may be right about that.”

He is complicit and, therefore, just as responsible for the criminal enterprise that was TFG's administration as TFG himself. More so, actually, since he provided cover vis a vis legal muscle, IMO.

He should be disbarred.

After all the chaos; the clown show of lying, despicable lawyers making false claims; the damage to the integrity of and faith in our electoral process; Trump's rage at Barr for telling the truth (at last), a frigging letter praising Trump elicits:

"This is pretty good."

Donald Trump was and is a total madman.
