When he meets with Pope Francis on Monday, the United States top diplomat will try to avoid the elephant in the room.
Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken intends to speak to the pontiff about shared values and ideas fighting climate change, people trafficking, violence and racism.
But on the minds of many involved is a festering dispute that has pitted Francis against a group of conservative American Catholic bishops who want to deny full church participation to Americas top Catholic: President Biden.
Led by Los Angeles Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, a majority of the bishops voted earlier this month to advance a document, still being drafted, that could potentially deny Communion to Biden and other Catholic politicians who support reproductive rights, including the right to abortion, in violation of church doctrine.

(41,989 posts)Corruption in the Catholic Church is why we have Lutherans, among many other versions of Christianity. Im actually amazed at how much influence he has. And how Christian churches hold on to outdated homophobic doctrine; doctrine that is based on bullshit.
Anyway My point is, the Pope *is* a powerful political figure. Of course Bidens going to meet with him

(21,161 posts)Rev. Salvatore Cordileone, he is awful and I think he was put in on purpose to piss off the progressive Catholics in San Francisco. A long time parish church was shut down because the arch bishop drove away parishioners. Last Saturday my Catholic school class had its 50th reunion and they had a mass before. I didnt go to mass because of that guy. I prefer the Lutheran church now over the Catholic.
