Four more bodies found in Florida condo rubble; at least 16 dead

SURFSIDE, Florida (AP) — The bodies of four additional victims have been found in the rubble of a collapsed condo tower, raising the death toll to 16 people, a fire official told victims’ families Wednesday.

Miami-Dade Assistant Fire Chief Raide Jadallah told family members at a morning briefing that rescuers found the bodies Tuesday night. He said the victims’ next of kin had not yet been identified.

Jadallah said that in addition to those four bodies, crews also found other human remains.

Florida authorities asked the federal government for an additional rescue team to comb the rubble of a collapsed condo tower, underscoring the strenuous nature of the open-ended search for survivors in an area prone to tropical weather.

there will be many-almost all dead. I stopped myself from using crude words. If only 90% are dead the missing dead are over 100. In a miracle case 2-3 could be found alive. Likely they will not. I could from experience describe what will be found. I have been at a collapse and seen it. God bless their passed souls. There remains a 1 in 1000 chance there may be a survivor but sadly it is no longer worth risking the lives of 50-100 rescuers. For a week they hung it out, going into cavities under debris knowing the smallest misstep might kill them. It is time to cut losses-It would be horrifying to have a rescuer killed when there have been no indications of life after an effort like this. Pull the teams and begin the recovery. No more injuries or deaths, just dna and whatever answers it gives...
