124 still missing. Pets still in building. Personal effects, etc. still in building.
It just gets more tragic every day.

(4,937 posts)that could topple the standing portion right on top of the rubble pile and further complicate recovery operations. Better to control where the standing tower falls.

(6,252 posts)Miami is outside the cone. Pull the rescue crews off. Dont demolish it yet. We can still use infrared, drones, robots, etc.
This seems shortsighted and heartless to me. Lets just pave over the dead.

(4,937 posts)The intent is to ensure the standing tower DOESNT fall on the collapsed section and interfere with the rescue/recovery effort.

(42,366 posts)"Pave over the dead?" Miami has been getting torrential downpours, as has the rest of the state, every day for weeks. The rest of that building could come down any second on top of the hundreds of rescue workers.
Do you really think they aren't doing everything in their power to rescue whoever they can? Have you seen any of the press briefings or interviews with families? Have you seen what the rescue workers are doing?
Shortsighted and heartless? Pay attention to what's really happening.

(5,232 posts)The building is teetering already. Even with a mild hit, all will fall down. Safety first. There are no survivors. Lets focus on bringing down the building in the safest way possible.
