(22,270 posts)We quit shopping there after she quit because of the way she was treated. This was way back before the ACA and the birth control issue.
When she started work, she told the manager she was available any day or time except Thursdays after 4 pm. She had signed up for an adult ballet class with her old dance studio and was really enjoying it.
So what did the guy who made up the work calendar do? He scheduled her to work from 4 pm to close on Thursdays! She was always able to get it changed, but why should she have had to do that?
She had thought she would really enjoy it there because she is an artist and she could get a discount on her art supplies.
We have never given them a penny since.

(25,552 posts)I could get it from Amazon...
Michael's charges an arm and a leg and never has it in stock...
I buy the entire stock at Hobby Lobby, because this is what I use to kill hackberries, snail seed, and all the woody weeds in my yard. I cut the stem. Put weed killer on and cap it with these. If I don't cap it the weed killer doesn't work as well. Also capping it prevents weed killer from getting on other plants. I buy about 10 packs every year.
Garden Ridge Pottery used to have EVERYTHING...It was my go-to store, but they went out of business. I don't know what happened with Garden Ridge..Garden Ridge used to compete with Michaels...But maybe Hobby Lobby was too much competition..
Garden Ridge was super popular......I don't know what happened.

Hope they all go out of business.

(2,752 posts)the Austin American-Statesman. I noticed The Register-Guard is owned by Gannett. I think Gannett owned or owns USA Today, which now owns the Austin newspaper.
Anyone with the time to do the research required to find opposite quotes from the Founding Fathers, Supreme Court Justices, Presidents, and folks like Alexis de Tocqueville they quoted would be doing a great thing.
I've found there's a long standing organization called Americans United for Separation of Church and State (au.org), established in 1948, got their email address, and emailed them to implore them to address it. I feel sure they have a body of history and quotes that will help them to pull something together.
This Christian Nation ideology is dangerous, fascistic, ahistorical pap.
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,857 posts)I didn't previously know that Gannett owned so many newspapers around the country!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gannett
It probably just means Hobby Lobby was desperate to spread their propaganda as widely as possible, while minimizing their number of business contacts to accomplish it.
The 1st Amendment protects such nonsense, since Gannett isn't the government. It's troublesome that Hobby Lobby is trying to convince people to oppose the Constitution's 1st Amendment which also declares separation of church and state. So they're apparently cherry-picking the parts of the Constitution that they like, typical of many so-called Christians who disregard Bible passages attributed to Jesus which instructs followers to give up all their worldly possessions.
It's mostly the religious types who are most strongly compelled to convert others, like the evangelicals, who keep trying to overthrow our Constitutional protections for the sake of their religion.
Thanks for sharing information about Americans United for Separation of Church and State!
Freedom From Religion is another such organization:

Theyre just being EVEN more blatant. Meanwhile the ignorant wingnuts barf about Libruls wanting to impose wokeness and all kinds of dangerous freedoms on their poiddle wingnut selves. Just wondering: The wingners used to be FOR the military, small government, freedom/liberty and suddenly theyve got nothing left. Nothing left IN PUBLIC, that is because it was always a sham about them.
By the bye, my own encounter with a Hobby Lobbiest several years ago: He was selling mattresses, chatted, told how he had been a very high level employee of the Hobby Lobby outfit, his office in the headquarters a few doors down from the actual head man. That he had to leave eventually because his daughter became severely disabled and he needed to focus only at home, although the Hobby owner was generous about some kind of financial or insurance exit support. But his story was that the entire Lobby empire does NOT use COMPUTERS at all, that the top tier of administrators have tried begging him to allow automation to no avail, that the owner has it in his Will that if his heirs *ever* try to make any changes to the empire they will forfeit their inheritance.

(4,986 posts)Theyve been Christian nationalists the whole time. I was young and dumb, so didnt pushback when they asked if I went to church during the interview for a menial position setting up a new store. My atheist self replied that Id been to church. I just wanted the job doing store setups was like being paid to workout.
Lemme tell you, it still is one of the worst work experiences Ive ever had - and I was a realtor for a short stint, so ya know, thats saying something. Was like Lord of the Flies in there competing for materials and equipment needed to do the job safely and efficiently. Other workers would take my box knife if I set it down for a minute or literally scoot a stack of glass dividers off the dolly when I paused to speak to one of the floor managers. Another asshole took my loaded wheel truck. Seriously. I quit the same day, Id had enough of their culture and ways of doing business.
I havent purchased anything at a Hobby Lobby since. Now theyre out there wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross. Im disgusted with them anew, however familiar the sensation is with regards to Hoblob.
