(9,775 posts)Even if we find out all the intimate details leading up to and on that day, publicly out the people responsible. Then what?
Seriously, will there be any accountability, any justice or will it be
Well just make sure you dont do it again, you really frightened some people.
To think that anyone is going to be kicked out of office, put in prison, exiled or anything that would give us a sense of justice is fantasy. We may find out the Congresspersons that assisted the insurrection, that maybe the Capitol police were not as prepared as the should have been, that maybe phone calls for help were delayed
that maybe
that maybe
that maybe.
We may learn of everything about everything that happened that day. Then history will be the judge and jury, we will live with only the knowledge.
Will that be enough?
But, we sat here and let the rich take over every aspect of our society with little more than a quiet whimper, and then tweak everything so that it only favors them... so why would we expect anything more over this?

As for accountability, probably not, unless the public rises up and demands it. Whether or not that ever happens remains to be seen.

(19,359 posts)that all this will be exposed to the electorate and Trump's complicity (no matter how fervently denied by right-wing media and, therefore, 35% of likely voters) may spell the a major setback for the Republicans as a whole, and Trump in particular.
I share your pessimism, but believe there is the possibility we can walk back from what is increasingly looking like a coming civil war.

Unenforceable law is no law at all.
Without Jan 6 enforcement, knowledge is the booby prize.
Thank you for your post, which hits to the heart of the matter.

(70,581 posts)Trump gave out the day, the date, the time, and the place on at least dozen times. (NY Times come here and go wild)
Trump helped to pay for it w/campaign funds.
Trump's chief of staff Nick Mulvaney's niece filled out the paperwork for the permit for Trump's pre-riot party.
Trump told the rioters to go to the Capitol and he would meet them there.
Trump told Georgia's Sec. of State that he needed some help on the vote count because big things
were gonna happen on 1/6/21.
Trump decapitated the D.C. National Guard prior to the attempted coup.
Trump refused to stop the violence when Rep. McCarthy and Mike Pence called him and asked for help.
And at the end of the day Trump told his thugs that he "loved 'em."

(7,286 posts)sheebus. what the hell. i hope her and her uncle have their comeuppance, but I doubt it.
I really like you laid out the most important facts so succinctly. I could almost argue the need for a select committee to investigate and establish the facts in evidence as witnessed by the entire world played out in real time, as completely unnecessary. Were it not for the ultimate goal of accountability, I would.

(70,581 posts)Trump, who has refused to concede his loss to Democratic President-elect Joe Biden, had urged his supporters multiple times to come to Washington for a rally on Wednesday, the day the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate were scheduled to certify the results of the Electoral College.
Statistically impossible to have lost the 2020 Election, Trump, a Republican, tweeted on Dec. 20. Big protest in DC on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!
They turned out in the thousands and heard the president urge them to march on the Capitol building to express their anger at the voting process and to pressure their elected officials to reject the results.
Were going to walk down to the Capitol and were going to cheer on our brave senators and Congressmen and women, Trump told the crowd, speaking with the White House as a backdrop.
Appearing at what could be his last rally as the sitting president, Trump exhorted his supporters to fight.
We will never give up, we will never concede, Trump said, delighting the crowd by calling Democratic victories the product of what he called explosions of bullshit.

(36,133 posts)There are timelines out there, but I prefer your list.
The Select Committee on Jan 6 must take what's been on public record and through official documents and witness testimony, enter it all, along with its final report, into the Congressional Record.
This history must not be altered, revised or erased.

I believe Adam Schiff, former prosecutor, has the balls to investigate and find the answers. But will others on the committee see this through, or block Schiff at every turn? This select committee could actually wind up becoming a 3rd impeachment of Chump.
This time they all go down. Lock them all up!

But after three hours it became apparent that the attack had stalled and would likely fail. Trump lost his nerve and decided to call of the attack to make it look like he didn't incite it.
