Now it's more and more like Alabama.

I've been in NY state since '84. Not planning on leaving.

Where you are at seems to be a much better area.

I had relatives in Springfield many years ago and they hated it.

The area around Springfield, Missouri is beautiful. Lovely green rolling hills, limestone bluffs, deep green rivers.

Terrible politics. Glad you got away.

Lived in Nixa (Springfield suberb, sort of ) and outside of Branson (hated the whole place)...just was there taking care of a relative...Just moved to the next state (KS) but at least they have a Dem Guv (for now) and in the Wichita area there are a few more Dems...I worked at that hospital in Springfield (Mercy) that is being overwhelmed right now...glad to be gone for the last four years....

but I went to high school in Nixa. Branson was just a quaint little town back then. I loathe Nixa with the very fiber of my being. However, I loved the Ozarks and still do. I know some of the best people ever from the SouthWest MO area. I wouldn't be who I am today if not for many of them.

My mom worked for, then, St John's for like 30 years. I thought they treated her terrible....especially as her retirement time neared. Probably not unlike how they treat most of us old folks now...but I didn't realize it then.

Sometimes I'll get melancholy and skim the real estate listings. But just so I can think of lightening bugs, pig roasts & beer kegs, great local musicians and floating the rivers. Of a time that no longer exists. Not for me anyway.

Cheers!!!

I only worked at St. John's (Mercy) for a couple of years (in the computer dept) and then needed to live down in Branson West to take care of my relative so I moved down there and worked in Branson doing computer work and other stuff at a couple of theaters and in travel related businesses...Met some decent folks there but some creepy ones too (the criminal jerk Jim Baker one time and did some work for a couple of time share companies (not sales, talk about evil predators pretending to be Christians). I did enjoy the mountain scenery and paddled several area rivers (I had a couple of kayaks). Anyway, I can see growing up there in a simpler time and loving it. Glad you had the experience...

By the way, just saw that the lovely citizens of Nixa are trying to recall the mayor for putting in a mask mandate to help with covid last year (this in the midst of overwhelmed hospitals full of covid delta variation patients...just wow...
