Heineken faces boycott threat over pro-vaccination ad

Dutch beer maker Heineken (HEIA.AS) is facing threats of a boycott after posting a pro-vaccination advert on Twitter.
#BoycottHeineken was trending on Twitter in the UK on Friday after the brewer posted an ad showing older generations partying in a club with the caption: "Cheers to the vaccinated. Time to join them".

The ad "celebrates a group of vaccinated seniors who are able to safely get back out to enjoy bars and clubs and socialise again – something we’re all looking forward to," a Heineken spokesperson told Yahoo Finance UK. "It is all about supporting the hospitality industry and getting back to the bars and restaurants safely so we can all be together again," they added.

But Heineken's post has upset anti-vaxxers, the term used to describe someone who is opposed to vaccinations. These people believe vaccines are unsafe and even infringe on their human rights. They often deny the validity of the science that supports their use, despite the World Health Organization categorically stating that vaccines prevent people from getting seriously ill or dying from COVID-19 and wants everyone to be jabbed.

Anyone boycotting your brand because of this ad will remove themselves from the beer-drinking demographic soon enough.

I will now stock up to support them as I will any company that supports vaccination.

A couple of anti-vaxxers tweeting for a boycott does not a make a boycott.
Plus, the pro-vaccination tweets are excellent.

The article writer managed to find one 'blue-tick' tweet about it - and that was an American. This is unlikely to mean any significant number of Britons are actually thinking of this.

I'd almost think that Heineken may be thinking "this is good publicity for us - tell the media, and get more people to watch it online; we know more normal people will like us for this than morons who will genuinely stop drinking our product". Yahoo, for some reason, won't show me the actual embedded tweets unless I agree to allow my Yahoo user data to be shared (with Twitter, I suppose). The whole thing looks more like corporations thinking "this is an easy win for us - point at some random loons, and most potential customers will rightly side with us".

You're reading a free Heineken ad right now. And I don't see the anti-vax crowd being a big Heineken market anyway. The people who make Bud Light better be careful what they say, though.

MAGAts are more the Pabst Blue Ribbon/Coors/Bud Light types. I don't think Heineken is going to take much of a hit on this one.

There are a lot of bro’s there. Fortunately my crowd is all vacced up.

The Orlando area has more than 30 Breweries. We hit one every Sunday.

Also do overnight trips to Tampa. They have over 50 in the 2 county area.

I’m lucky my wife has developed a real taste for crafts. But only drinks a few 5 oz glasses so I have a driver!

Good luck since conservative boycotts never ever work. Besides since when did a bunch of antivaxxers drink Heineken anyway? They seem more like a Pabst Blue Ribbon type people.
