And you're thinking, "what the hell is toluene diisocyanate?" Polyurethane foam is made out of four chemicals: that one I just named and that we'll call TDI from here on in; a "polyol" like ethylene glycol; the catalyst 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (better known as DABCO) that causes the first two chemicals to link together; and a blowing agent like carbon dioxide or water that makes the polyurethane foam up before it gets a chance to cure.
There are reports that TDI causes neurological damage.
TDI is used to make the foam that Mike Lindell uses to make his pillows.
Is it possible that Mike Lindell's insanity is from the chemicals he uses to make his lumpy pillows and not from the drugs he used to do or the company he currently keeps?

(65,230 posts)I've worked with TDI.
It is, indeed, a very dangerous compound. Causes neurological damage, as you said, and if inhaled can cause major respiratory damage.
You see, TDI will react with any free hydroxyl. Using glycol, which has a hydroxyl on both ends is how it forms a polymeric chain.
Water also has an effective hydroxyl.
So, the TDI reacts with it to form a film which coats the bronchial tubes and alveoli. Very bad.
But, in a relatively short amount of time, residual TDI in a foam reacts with atmospheric moisture. It's not TDI, anymore. His company, AFAIK, doesn't make their own urethane foams. They just buy scraps and cut them into like size chunks.
Lindell is a nut, but I think his brain damage has more to do with his crack addiction than any industrial chemical effects.

(1,167 posts)My allergist told me that you're much more susceptible to allergens and toxins when you're asleep than when you're awake.
If someone were stupid enough to be breathing in the toxins from his pillows while sleeping 8 hours a night . . . well, let me say that it's nothing I'd want to do..

You think he's a glue sniffer?
I would guess as far as his pillows are concerned the pillow content is perhaps a by product of waste from another manufacturing process where he acquires rejected or excess polyurethane foam and shreds it.

(5,128 posts)As well as he may have other mental health issues. Some people with substance abuse issues, have underlying mental health issues. Even his story about how he got sober is a bit nuts. He said that he was doing so much crack that his 3 drug dealers did an intervention.

Beer! Salvation in a can! WHY BEER IS GOOD FOR YOU.
One night at Cheers, Cliff Clavin said to his buddy, Norm Peterson "Well, ya see, Norm, beer is good and here is why. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members!. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine! That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.
