(36,747 posts)No sympathy here...ZERO.
I feel bad for the kids, those vaccinated who have inadequate immunity, immunocompromised and those medically unable to get vaccinated.

(44,974 posts)But even vaccinated elderly can die from covid.
roamer65
(36,747 posts)There will be vaccinated people who dont generate enough antibodies to fight off this variant.
Their death will be squarely the fault of the antivaxxers.
A lot of staff in nursing homes remain un-vaccinated. They are presumably the source of infection in the nursing homes.

(36,747 posts)To work in a nursing home and be unvaccinated is just plain evil.
No Vested Interest
(5,167 posts)They fear missing a day of work and pay more than what they see of Covid.
My daughter (in her late 50's) lives in a long-term care facility.
All cases of Covid were brought in by staff, not family or friends.
Thank goodness, no deaths among residents so far.

(17,989 posts)is extremely small even for the elderly and even with current variants. Future variants? That's a whole different ball game.
Even those who have been vaccinated can still be exposed and test positive, but in the vast majority of cases they won't show symptoms and their immune systems destroy the virus. A small number may have symptoms, but much less than the unvaccinated and the chances of hospitalization and death are greatly diminished.

Maru Kitteh
(28,343 posts)make the vaccine available. Administrators must call up all the powers of attorney to get permission before it's administered and those families are frequently hesitant, frightened and in search of advice - especially in a garnet-red county like this. If the administrator they are speaking to is dismissive, suspicious, negative, etc that will sway many who are often already predisposed to hesitancy straight into the "no" column.
Ex Lurker
(3,816 posts)Not everybody choosing to forego vaccinations is a Trumper. A lot of them are minorities who suffer from systemic racism, lack of access to health care, and a justified skepticism of the medical establishment.

(14,858 posts)My oldest brother is a resident of a nursing home in Ohio, and an administrator told me that 100% of the residents there were vaccinated.
Hope she wasn't lying to me.

(44,974 posts)What did administrator say about the staff vaccination rates? As far as I can tell that's where the issue is in nursing homes-while residents are well vaccinated staff is not.
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,858 posts)Last I read for Ohio, the vaccination rate for residents was over 90% (in March), but far lower among the staff!
Ms. Toad
(34,114 posts)Vaccination among residents is near 100%, but less than 50% for staff.

The staff seem very attentive and caring, more than what I've observed in other places, but it's located in a fairly "red" area in the boonies.
Maru Kitteh
(28,343 posts)do not include identifying information.
Like so many other things, the percentage of residents vaccinated have much to do with management and staff.

(17,989 posts)but this time it will be regional clusters. Oh, and the conspiracies we'll hear this fall and winter as "the hoax", no worse than the flu is now targeting conservo-nuts! That was the super giant liberal plan all along!! Never mind the faulty logic or no logic at all.

(21,818 posts)I figured better have some in supply since a) I think this thing or something similar is going to come back harder than before, and b)the time of plenty is the time to prepare.
My county is less than 40% vaxxed.
I hate to see this happen.

(111,374 posts)With so much research showing a steep drop in antibodies in a few months, it is a good idea to get the shots after having the disease. The two shot regimen is to ensure the virus is logged into the memory cells, providing long term immunity.

(10,274 posts)Missouri being an At-Will workstate, delta being as bad as it is, and business across the board really really not wanting to close down again, I'm PRAYING for the day that the vaccines get non-emergency approval from the FDA, so it CAN start being MANDATED.
Oh, we get to stay open and make money if and only IF ALL our employees get a shot?
And the alternative is that we DONT get to do that?
Guess what, you're getting your shot or your getting fired.
Not for any other reason than the pure fucking schadenfreud of the thing at this point, I want this to happen. And if the Free Market needs to become the functional excuse that
1) FINALLY kills this little bugger off, or
2) means I dont have to work with quite as many damn-fool OAN watching idiot managers, I'm just fine with that.
