Jason Ravnsborg is really looking for an out. The South Dakota attorney general who struck and killed Joe Boever with his car back in September of 2020 is now claiming the victim wanted to die. Boever, whose glasses were found inside Ravnsborgs car and whose lit flashlight was found off the road and near his body, had recently started taking a prescription anti-anxiety medicine, Keloland reports. Ravnsborgs defense team filed a court document requesting the victims psychiatric records. That document quotes Boevers cousin Barnabas Nemec saying he believes Boever threw himself in front of the car on purpose.
The filing claims that Boever was working his way through a bottle of Lorazepam faster than prescribed, and that the common medicine can cause suicidal ideation. It also says evidence points to Boever walking in the road instead of the shoulder. Thats a take that another cousin, Nick Nemec, disputes, the Daily Beast reports. Joe was on the shoulder of the road, he said, So, that, I would think, would indicate he wasnt out trying to jump in front of a car. He also said that hed seen no indication that Boever was suicidal. Prosecutors say Ravnsborg had been using his phone while driving shortly before the accident, per the Argus Leader.

(102,447 posts)I'd bet in many states they would not. In SD? Who knows.

Ravnsborg is a depraved and remorseless killer. Everybody knows he's lying.

(3,503 posts)how the AG knew about his victim's mental health. Maybe he heard it through legitimate channels, or maybe he illegally accessed it (just saying).
In any event, it's stooping pretty low. He's received a lot of special dispensation. If you hadn't heard, the AG claimed he didn't know what he hit in his original statements. After a certain point in the questioning, the state police officer doing the questioning told the AG that the victims glasses were found in his car. He hit him so hard the victim's face went through the windshield (and he drove away afterwards).
Hopefully when the jury is presented with all the evidence the AG will be found guilty and maybe the shock at the lack of punishment for the crime will bring about some reform. I feel sorry for the victim's friends and family. This whole process has been belittling IMHO.
