Can someone explain this social media thing to me?

I'm on Facebook and Instagram. I don't post except to comment on the posts of out of state family and friends. Well, once in a great while I'll post a pic of something I did or made etc so they can see.

I keep seeing random posts from people I don't even know ... probably "sponsored" of these beautiful blonds all upset because the neighbor judged them for assorted half naked romping within their own home with the windows wide open. It's like this bizarre reverse voyerism ... as if they just WANT someone peeking in and then whining poor little gorgeous me in my fancy french lingerie .... oh me oh my what shall a poor little pretty girl do when the neighbors are puritanical shrews (eek)

I'm sure this silliness is totally made up. The face in the post is probably stolen the poster god only knows what data miner type entity.... but it seems like it is suddenly everywhere and very strange.

I've figured out the post your food and the cats and the challenges but this one has me stumped....

Oh and please understand, I in no way am saying anything against pretty girls... I'm not one so more power to you ... it's just that I don't get this particular trend.

It's either sponsored or someone you're friends with liked or interacted with the original post. WhiskeyGrinder Jul 2021 #1

I'm on FB, but not Instagram. I have VERY high privacy settings, and therefore almost never see something random.

I've also been willing to unfriend people who turned out to be RW a-holes, which clearly is not your issue.

Also, on FB you can simply delete any post that shows up that you don't want to see. You can also delete any post of yours, especially, as has happened to me, my post was not well thought out. Deleting an original post also makes any responses go away, unlike what happens here at DU if you choose to delete a post of yours. The content goes away, but not the fact that you posted, nor any responses to your post.

Hope that helps at least a little.

that anyone can post on public posts and "friends of friends" can get you in trouble with posts you don't want to see - one can go in the settings to review all that and change up when you must. Sponsored sites - no problem - ask to hide or report as spam (unless you are truly interested in bringing into your newsfeed. I am in quite a few private "groups," that have moderators/admins; there's also some that are "hidden." I have few FB friends outside of my family and only friends can view my posts or profile stuff - I rarely use any group messaging options preferring private messages and hardly ever join any outside group chat messaging. I'm almost always fine tuning who can view what I post or comment on in social media and to whom and almost never make a public post that anyone can chime in on.
