Let's say you had a friend who just woke up from a 6-year coma...

What would you say to them to explain to them how the country got into this situation without being accused of playing in the necessarily elaborate and cruel joke?

And if there was some way to convince me, I'd probably go right back to "sleep!"

I think it was Candice Bergen hosting SNL, and she's at the foot of the hospital bed of a woman who is waking up from a coma since like the Clinton administration. Bergen is telling her there's no more MySpace and a whole litany of other revelations, then lastly tells her that Donald Trump is president, and she asks, "Of what?". When Bergen tells her he's president of the United States, the woman says, "Can you please put me back in the coma?".

He died in December 2009 at the age of 88.

I’ve imagined my sister, brother and myself sitting down with him, trying to explain what’s transpired in this country since his passing. He’d stare at us disbelievingly, blink a few times, then say as he often did “You gotta be kidding me.”

Nope, Dad, not kidding.
