(15,155 posts)You took me back to a fun memory, though. My first year in college, my friend Amy and I used to drive down to Jack's in her burgundy Camaro (complete with 8 track stereo!) and get "Two Ts and and O" - two tacos and an order of onion rings.
Fun times.

(6,206 posts)tacos are the best! I like soft taco shells.

(15,155 posts)Sometimes I buy the small tortillas and make street tacos with my killer cabbage salad on top.
My daughters played basketball in high school and parents would host night-before-game-day dinners. Taco bar was always a hit.

Hey, what is really good that will piss off a lot of people if we discontinue it? Lets do that!

You have to appreciate them for whatever they are. Kink of like a sack of White Castles (and for those, definitely go with onion rings as a side), or the Whataburger that Texas is IMO inexplicably fond of. Part regional, part what you like, part what you grew up with

(1,132 posts)I have loved them since I moved to Houston in 1970. I'm not sure they are the best Tacos...but whatever they are, I love 'em. No Jack in the Box around here though.
On edit: We're not the only ones...Americans buy 1000 jitb tacos every minute.

(65,195 posts)The Jack was the only 24 hour fast food joint in the city we lived in.
So, it was our go to place if waited too long to decide on pizza.
Loved those tacos.
Doesn't matter now though, as I don't know that there's a Jack within a hundred miles. Maybe more than that!

(12,449 posts)if there's a Jack in the Box at a truck stop, I'll eat about 6 of them, along with their curly fries.
As far as something better, no other fast food compares to their tacos, IMO.

(285 posts)I grew up in Texas. There was a Jack in the Box right across the street from the UT campus. For many years I would eat there regularly, mostly because they always had a few things on the menu for $1 or less, including 2 tacos for $1. I came to really like JitB (or so I thought).
After leaving Texas I would always want to stop at one when returning for a visit or when traveling to a location that had them. Once I hit my 40s I started getting bad heartburn/indigestion when I ate Jack in the Box. I finally gave up on them and have avoided them when back in the south.
My real favorite - which I still seek out - is Olga's Kitchen's Olga sandwich (like a Greek gyro with a better bread and yummy melty cheese). The one in Houston shut down after I left Houston. The one in Austin shut down after I left Austin. Then I moved to Michigan, the home of Olga's! That is the only place you can find them (I think).
I still make a point to stop by and get a couple whenever I am in Michigan.

All in good fun. Enjoy your tacos.

(32,094 posts)They're so bad, they're good. That being said, I much prefer a taco from any given taco truck of one from Jack in the Box.

(12,132 posts)my school bus stop was in front of a JitB and I had a super taco or a breakfast jack (or both) almost every morning so I do understand where you are coming from. Since I moved to FL almost 40 years ago I have only seen a JitB about 3 times but every time I made a beeline to the counter to get me a Super taco (Although I guess now you get 2 mini tacos instead of 1 big one).
I don't care of JitB is gross. I don't care if they use kangaroo meat. I don't care if Jacques Pépin is cooking next door.
Jack in the Box tacos are awesome.
And I'm not even drunk.

(285 posts)I simply assume that Jack misnamed the food-like product.
They are not tacos. Any more than Pizza Hut pizza is actual pizza. I enjoy(ed) them for what they were and did not make comparisons.
Even the burgers were only compared to other fast-food burgers - McD's, Burger King, Whataburger (the closest challenger).
They were particularly tasty greasy, leather-covered demi-disks with added cheese-like foodish product.

There's a world of better out there. They're just about on par with Taco Bell.

For what it is, it's pretty good. Better than McDonalds and Wendys. About on par with Burger King. Certainly not sit down or fine dining.

(54,068 posts)Meaning real, actual tacos. If you got a pastor taco on a homemade mais tortilla with onions and cilantro, grilled with just a hint of pineapple and lime, you'd give up your heathen Taco Bell ways.
This is what love tastes like.

(939 posts)The family affectionately called them "Stupid Tacos". You have to eat them upside down though. That is the only way to eat a stupid taco. And btw they have them in mini size now too.

(12,029 posts)And yes, I usually make my own pulled-pork tacos with homemade corn tortillas and homemade salsa. But JIB tacos go back to my childhood in California, when my dad would bring them home late at night and we'd gorge on tacos and French fries. I hadn't had them in decades, then indulged when I went back to CA for a visit -- and they were as tasty as I remembered.
