In anyone dying of covid. Even though they are twisted dumb fucks putting this entire nation in jeopardy.
Im not better than anyone who does. I understand the sentiment. Just saying every time I read about an ignorant cultist or antivaxcer dying I am sad about it.

(11,276 posts)they get. There is not always another side to take especially in a pandemic. I am sad about it all also. The cable corporations are doing Putins work dividing us. Thoughts and questions 24 hours a day are not news. Many of us are lost.

(153,169 posts)it's all just tragic - and I feel for the medical folk who have to take care of these people dying in such a senseless way

(36,221 posts)They are some really dumb people in this country who believe crooks and liars and conspiracy theorists. Obviously many more than I could have imagined pre 2016.
I am not making excuses, but high level people and news persons and stations have been feeding them all this shit.
Plus a former president who cannot care for anything but his own ego.
There are dumbasses and yes they are risking many other persons health and life too.

Luckily we managed to out-vote them anyway, in 2020.
Yes, we are better than them, we don't want them to die-- but they are incorrigible.
So if enough of them die, out of their own stupidity and hateful ideology, to offset the GQP's efforts to suppress our vote-- I won't shed any tears over that. The leaders, who know better, have brought this disaster upon their base. They were privately gleeful when covid was a disease attacking the Democratic vote in the cities, but they lacked foresight. Too goddamn bad.

(6,537 posts)It's a sad time. Shouldn't ever feel guilty about recognizing a loss. People make mistakes. Have to help them not to make the mistake. Seems like there are two states: one anger; the other, regret. No matter what you do, you end up with a feeling of "what a waste."

(34 posts)A mistake is forgetting to turn off a stove before you leave for work and coming back to a pile of cinders where your home used to be. Making the conscious decision to not only ignore but denigrate scientific and medical experts (who know a lot more than you), disregarding public health measures and willingly jeopardizing the lives of other people who cant choose to get a vaccine or are so vulnerable that a vaccine provides little in the way of protection all in the name of fighting a toothless ideological war is a series of choices motivated by selfishness and willful ignorance. Calling it a mistake lets them off too lightly.
Yes, I created an account just to reply to this. I feel quite strongly about this topic because I think coddling these kinds of people is why weve arrived to where this is even an issue today. Most of them are not harmless, misguided souls. They know what theyre doing, they just think theyre invincible. I can understand discouraging people from taking joy in Covid deaths. I understand prompting people to rise above that pettiness. But I disagree with categorizing people who self-inflicted their own demise as victims. They made a choice to remain stubbornly ignorant. I do not feel they deserve anything other than apathy. I am pro-compassion, but not everyone is inherently deserving of it.

(4,372 posts)they have been encouraged and reinforced in that decision by their presumed 'leaders', from right-wing media to their elected politicians... the blood is on their hands.
With our democracy at stake in the next elections, I can't shed too many tears over those who 'refuse to be told what to do by the government' even though those instructions can save their lives and health--- with the stakes in question, their stubbornness and stupidity is the good fortune of our country. We have done everything we could to save their lives, without regard to ideology or party registration--- however, every one of them who commits suicide is one less vote for fascism. If they refuse to take good medical advice, well, we can do without these people anyway. May they rest in peace.
Welcome to DU Very thoughtful post, I hope we hear more from you.
Of course, the really bad part is how many innocent people they may take with them, through their intransigence...

(9,446 posts)While I'm not happy about their deaths I do not feel sorry for them. Just like I don't feel sorry for drunk drivers who who didn't give a crap about the lives of others when they chose to get behind the wheel.
Welcome to DU.

(6,537 posts)your definition of "mistake," then. I happen to agree with OP that no joy can be taken when someone dies. OP said that even though the dead human might have been an antivaxxer or something else, there was sadness in the death. OP never mentioned victims. I don't think you can ever have true compassion if you pick and choose like that. If you just choose to walk over the dead body with apathy, there is something wrong with you.

(16,246 posts)My opinion is..we would not be in this place had we leadership n honesty. Precious lives lost..vaxxed or not. My real pain about this is the ignorance/superstition that the government is behind this..well..hell yes. Vaccines are free thanks to taxpayers... information is at fingertips. Its the selfishness n lack of respect for others that I cant get over. All of us needed vaccinations to enter school..travel outside the country in most cases. I just dont get it.

(36,221 posts)I watched a woman saying no one had a right to make her get a vaccine. And my response is you do not have the right to give another covid.

I feel no joy, only sadness.
Edit: I do, however, feel deep frustration with the people who die from COVID after bragging publicly about how proud they are not to be getting a vaccination. And I do express my astonishment and anger here on DU re their pig-headedness and stupidity. But I always feel bad whenever I read about Another senseless death.
The one exception I make is for TFG. Should he die, I will celebrate.

(6,685 posts)Although I can't say I'm particularly sad when someone with any clout, who advocated against working people dies - regardless of the the reason. I don't celebrate, but I'm not exactly sad either.
When regular people are dying because they listened to the wrong voices, I'm not exactly sad either. It is a tragedy, but unless I knew them, it isn't personal.
