Rochester TV Reporter Shares 'Disgusting' Verbal Assault Just Before Her On-the-Street Live Shot

"Being hit on and harassed as a woman, especially as a woman reporter out in the field, happens so often you learn how to roll with it or ignore it," Hamblin said on Twitter, "This time it happened to be recorded only seconds before my hit. There are A LOT of things wrong with this."

Hamblin was preparing for a live shot when two men approached her and began commenting on her appearance. After Hamblin politely answered their questions about the live broadcast, one of the men harassed her, making vulgar and abusive comments about her race and appearance.

Hamblin responded to the abuse, saying "Alright, we are done here. Have a great rest of your day" to the man, yet he continued to make uninvited vulgar comments to Hamblin.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/rochester-tv-reporter-shares-disgusting-verbal-assault-just-before-her-on-the-street-live-shot-video/ar-AAMum55?ocid=undefined

In the video, Hamblin is seen preparing for a shot as a black passerby compliments her appearance. "You look nice by the way," he says to which she replies, "thank you." Hamlin's attention then turns to her cell phone, when a white man passes by and immediately starts making suggestive comments."

"You're beautiful as hell, goddamnit," the man says to Hamblin, who once again politely acknowledges the compliment. However, the man persists and demands to know why she was in the front of a camera.

"Go find a TV and watch Spectrum News," she told him as she put on a forced smile. The man then directs a series of sexist and racist statements at the reporter. "See that's why I can't be left alone with a Black woman," he says before adding that he couldn't control himself around "mulatto" women, a racial phrase referring to people of mixed heritage. "Because I can't stand these f—– white girls."

"All right, we are done here," a visibly uncomfortable Hamblin says. "Have a great rest of your day." "You are sexy as f*ck," the man is heard saying before the video ends with Hamblin saying, "Oh my god."

From just the experience my wife has had over the past 35 years I say men are due some bashing. She is a very pretty woman, even now at 60. Way smarter and harder working than me. The behavior she sees now is not nearly as bad as it was 35 years ago. And now she is at a level at work that gives men pause about making negative comments as she can fire their asses. But she still gets the patronizing comments. Back when we were young and she was a low level manager it was often worse than patronizing. One of her finest moments was getting promoted over a man who used to make unacceptable comments to her. He promptly retired.

After Trump lost she actually had a manager who works for her lamenting the fact that college educated white women vote emotionally based on personalities, not logic. She said he paled when she looked him in the eye and said “you mean women like me?” He has announced his December retirement. She’s over the shit she took. At least no one is patting her ass anymore.

I’ve never taken any comment about men here to be aimed at all of us. Certainly it’s not never meant for all men. But a shit ton of men do objectify women and treat them poorly.

Since I don’t treat women poorly I’ve never taken issue with comments aimed at men who do.

Here's what I encourage you to do: If you see some man harassing a woman, speak up right then and tell him to STFU.

Nobody's bashing men in general here. It's just pointing out that women face such crap on a regular basis. It's up to the rest of us to call men out when they do that, and do it in a way that shuts them up immediately.

The poster stated that she has encountered sexual harassment in every country she's visited, from men of all colors.

As a matter of fact, I have encountered sexual harassment as well, from many different men of all kinds of backgrounds.

And, as a matter of fact, your over the top angry response is a typical example of male rage directed at any woman who dares to complain. So bingo, you just participated, buddy.

Walk a mile in our shoes.

Women, children, PoC are watchful around people who look like me and I get it. It hurts, but it's totally understandable. We white guys are being betrayed by other white guys, not women, not PoC, but our own brothers.

We need to start checking our younger brothers about what they are doing to others. To themselves.

Every woman I know has heard the relatively unthreatening “smile, honey” while simply walking along minding her own business. So annoying to hear this from perfect strangers.

But often it is much worse than that.

The “ripping” is simply because this hits a very raw nerve with women.

I giggled at some poster a week or so ago who was so offended by a anti-mask comment that he posted how he would have crippled the person. That poster would be sniveling in a corner if he took an eighth of what most women deal with all their lives.

This was specifically about a woman of color. The words he used were specifically referring to women of color and mixed race.

While I appreciate what you're trying to say that's not what my comment was about.

and there's also focussing and zooming in the clip. He may not have intervened because she's in charge - she's the professional talker, who is probably best at quickly defusing the situation to allow them to film (which is what they want - while it would be nice to confront the guy, that'll take time, when their job is to do the piece and move on).

Zooming in at end to frame her disgust.

The sad thing about camera work is you are taught to remain distant and "get the shot"...

This camera person needs to learn that rules are meant to be broken.
