ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Republican Jake Ellzey has won a US House seat in Texas over a Trump-backed rival.
.................
Ellzeys come-from-behind victory over Republican Susan Wright, the widow of the late Rep. Ron Wright, in a special congressional election runoff near Dallas is likely to be celebrated by Trump antagonists who have warned against his continued hold on the GOP.
Ellzey was carrying more than 53% of the vote in Texas 6th Congressional District with results from almost all precincts reported.

(21,086 posts)I often here posters here and friends in the real world lament how nothing in the news will matter, the Trumpsters will continue to blindly follow Trump no matter what. But those aren't the people whose minds we need to change. There are plenty of moderate Republicans who voted for Biden, and there were still some moderates who held their nose and voted for Trump. Those ones that still voted for Trump are the target, they are affected by the 1/6 hearings, they still pay attention to Covid and how Trump botched that. They are being made more and more likely to vote against Trump as time goes by. They are growing more and more disillusioned with the GOP and will either not bother to vote in 2022 or vote to punish Republicans and Trumpsters then.
I still believe that the Republican Party is making a huge mistake by not cutting Trump loose, they're going all in on a madman who won't help them in 2022 and whose voters have proven they won't show up if he's not on the ballot.
