(40,234 posts)Im waiting for the epiphany when he realizes that the Republican Party no longer exists.
Kinzinger is a good man. I wish him well on the rocky road he is traveling.

(40,234 posts)He is very conservative, a political world view I will never understand. But I think one can still be a decent person and a conservative at the same time. He is not a hateful person.

(67,782 posts)...of the "two sides", that Democrats and republicans really want the same result, but they way they want to achieve that is different.
Democrats want to get there by reinforcing the good in people.
republicans want to get there by suppressing the bad in people.
But again, that was years ago, long before the polarized society we have today.

(26,158 posts)Voted to repeal the ACA, and refused to impeach Trump the first time, along with lots of other RWNJ stuff.
He is not a traitor, and I respect him for that. But, a decent person cannot be against basic human and civil rights. Hopefully, he may evolve some.

(54,087 posts)He's an honorable man and he supports the principles of democracy. We can share a country with him. You wouldn't like him running the House Ways and Means Committee. Not that he'll ever have that chance now.

(4,211 posts)must make some Rs nervous, as in who ordered the lighter security, who declined to send the Guard in, etc. They're gonna wish they didn't go down that path.

There is no room for doubt the Trump administration stripped the Capitol of its usual defenses against unruly crowds, and did so while assembling a mob of violent insurrectionists to assault the tallying of electoral votes.

I'm sure the committee is going to get around to the fact that help from the National Guard was requested several times DURING the riot and was refused.
Adam Schiff and Jamie Raskin are on that committee. I'm sure their staffs are putting together a comprehensive list of witnesses and a rock solid line of interrogation.
If it wasn't such a serious situation this could be fun to watch. But heads are going to roll and trump people are going to jail.

The Magistrate
(95,257 posts)It will remain my duty to vote against him, and I will, but I doubt I would enjoy it much. Voting against Rauner and Oberweis was great fun, and even voting against Kirk was a pleasure.

Smart people - historians, political scientists, reasonable old time Republicans - know the path the GOP is on has reached maximum insanity. It's not sustainable, not even if fascism succeeds. So in my view a rebirth of the GOP is in the incubator. They may not assume power for 15 or 20 years. But they will endure.
I sure disagree with most of Liz Cheney's policy views, especially on the environment. But she is a realist. She knows what's going on.
