Retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, who was tasked by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with conducting a review of the US Capitol's security after January 6, on Tuesday said President Donald Trump's White House was complicit in orchestrating the insurrection.
"It's my personal opinion that the executive branch was complicit in the planning and the delayed response that occurred in bringing in more federal assistance to the Capitol that day," Honoré said during an MSNBC appearance, underscoring that he had not reached this conclusion from the security review he spearheaded.
"That's my own perception, based on what I've seen and what I've heard and by the fact the former president is continuing to tell people, 'This was not a riot, it meant no harm, it was like a picnic,'" Honoré said, adding, "The last I heard from him, he told them to go to the Capitol and raise hell."
During an incendiary speech near the White House shortly before the violence at the Capitol, Trump told lies about the 2020 election and called on his supporters to "fight like hell."

(33,432 posts)He thrives when his Surname is repeated by everyone all over the world. It's what he lives for: Fame.
Refusing to speak it, or type it, is a small way of fighting back against that monstrous ego, of demonstrating disrespect, and I think that's why Biden coined it. Clearly it's struck a chord with DUers.
I've called him The Dotard ever since NK did, but TFG is pretty good - it reminds us that he's actually gone.

(33,432 posts)The Dotard is not literally counting his mentions on DU, of course, but he does thrive on his fame or infamy. I don't think it is juvenile or ridiculous to refuse to speak his name. Biden apparently agrees, since he coined the term.
Perhaps using that acronym is more in the category of "self-care" for DUers like me. I know that I don't enjoy typing his surname. I did NOT enjoy staying in a Chicago hotel with a view of his surname across the river, either. I would like him blotted from History and I know that won't happen.
So "TFG" is a small comfort, and not as childish as many others, like Mango Mussolini or Agolf Twitler.

(42,862 posts)Here's a helpful tip: If typing t-r-u-m-p is so distressing. How about using something that's more easily understood by ordinary adults... folks who are NOT a part of the cool-kids or "in-crowd". Oh, maybe "DT" or DJT or "45" ... those will allow people to not sully their keyboards and minds, but STILL it has the advantage of being more easily understood by the casual reader.
And using people's actual names has the added benefit of NOT making people feel foolish because they don't get the in-joke... and without having to disrupt the discussion with subthreads like this one.
All I'm saying is that if people want to have adult political conversations with other adults, then everyone be mature enough to deal with their anger, or PTSD from having to look out of a hotel window at the "TRUMP" name on a building... without having to use cryptic nicknames or ever-changing acronyms or other poopy-pants insults. In the race to out-cute each other and playing "follow-the-leader" with these types of trends... it only creates more confusion.

(872 posts)to refer to him as 'the former guy'. It's much more courteous than the other names I've used to refer to him without speaking his name. and I talk politics with friends and family ALL THE TIME. The two are not mutually exclusive. That's my informed opinion. Good for my self-care.

(16,564 posts)That name sparks such strong revulsion for me that I would rather avoid it.
If I really wanted to be obscure, I'd refer to him by various Shakespearean insults like I did on another online community I was posting on back in 2016. After he "won" that election, the sound of his name (even reading it silently) was so painful that I couldn't bring myself to use it. For a while, I referred to him by such sobriquets as "elvish-markd, abortive, rooting hog," "lump of foul deformity," and "odiferous stench."
I eventually got through that phase and put it behind me, but it was quite therapeutic for a while there.

(42,862 posts)Using juvenile poopy-pants nicknames to "taunt" politicians (who'll NEVER read it anyway) is therapeutic?
Wouldn't it be easier to avoid discussing politics entirely? I mean, you're still THINKING about him (even if using cryptic code-words to refer to him) he's still ON YOUR MIND so nothing changes, right?
Personally speaking, if I was in a state of being so mentally distraught at the very mention of his name, then a POLITICAL discussion forum is the last place I'd intentionally hang out. Instead, I'd certainly find a more relaxing hobby or pastime where I didn't have to think about Trump or where I didn't need to come up with trendy nicknames for Trump. That's all I'm trying to say.

Are you also offended by other terms, e.g. rethuglicans, slobfather, orange menace, etc.?

I don't use it IRL. I say, "the former President." I don't like to use his name.
NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)I've heard others who continue to use it try to justify it by explaining that it "hurts Trump's feelings" or it screws with Google's algorithms (or some other equally contrived and nonsensical reason).
I guess people think they're being clever and original by following-the-crowd on this... but I guess that's the nature of fads. Everyone thinks is their "own" idea or that it's the greatest thing since paper napkins. (It's not.)

Chris Miller was installed at Defense Sec. after the election. He issued a memo Jan. 4 saying that without his personal authorization the D.C. Guard couldnt be issued weapons, ammunition, bayonets, batons or ballistic protection equipment such as helmets and body armor. That timing and topic can't be a coincidence.

Same thing for ordered security. At our protest the capital steps were off limits, guards wouldn't even allow a photo on capital steps. One guard even said, "you could be shot for running on the capital steps" There were lines of mounted security too, maybe 40 or 50 mounted guards and guards were armed. Whoever was in charge of security dropped the ball.
Soon as the violent attacks started at the barriers, they should have shot a couple of them & closed the building.
