I would say his penmanship is like a 7-year-old but my 7-years-olds penmanship is better

Following altercations with Rep. McKinley and his staff over mistakenly having been put on a bill, Rep. Madison Cawthorn wrote letters in an attempt to smooth things over.

(17,989 posts)and all you'll get is a vacuous look and more bumper sticker snark. It's all his neurons can manage. I've tried it on others of his kind to no great effect.

(112,510 posts)I don't know if that interfered with his penmanship, but I'm inclined to overlook it. It is fair game to criticize him for his political and social views, but commenting on his penmanship is petty.

(33,643 posts)a) the text/content in general, and
b) deciding it's appropriate to hand-write it, knowing that his penmanship is elementary-school level (whatever the cause of that may be).

(51,170 posts)First, he was homeschooled which probably explains his poor penmanship.
Second, his disability is his fault. His feet were on the dashboard while his buddy was driving. The insurance company should have done more to fight his suit.
Third and beyond. He is a liar. Lied about the crash and lied about his acceptance to the Naval Academy.
He got mostly D grades in college.
A statement on Wikipedia has him saying the accident made him less intelligent with reading and studying more difficult for him. Then why the hell is he in Congress? Oh! That must be the standard for GQP.

(25,987 posts)Whether his horrible penmanship is due to his accident or not, he really should look into typing his letters or having someone else write them for him. Oof.

(63,221 posts)Of course, I would never make the mistake of sending a hand written note with such atrocious handwriting. Seriously, I think my little nieces and nephews have better penmanship.

(19,276 posts)He's writing in complete, grammatically coherent sentences, using properly spelled words, and at a fairly high reading level.
Can I write far more attractively? Absolutely. But given the abysmal state of education today, this is above average. I have TWO lab techs under me, both with bachelor's degrees in biochemistry, who's handwriting is almost unreadable. We had to literally change some of our lab practices to accommodate them, printing typed labels for EVERYTHING instead of just writing on samples like we've done for 20 yr.
