A friend of ours work for penn state health as a RN, and is assigned at moment to vaccine center. She has noticed the schedule is getting booked up.

3. My idiot son-in-law finally got his first jab

It only took this long for my daughter (an RN!) to persuade him. Not a RWNJ or anti-vaxxer, just convinced he was immune because he was exposed a number of times and never got it, and he’s healthy and fit. I think he’s finally seen the light that young, healthy and fit people are much more likely to die or be hospitalized if unvaccinated.

16. Well that's good news. Meantime,

my area of western NY stays stuck at 43% vaccinated.

Nearby Buffalo area just moved up in CDC designation from moderate to substantial new infections. At the same time, my area went from low to moderate. I have checked the new cases on my area's health department website each day, watching them triple in the past week, with 3 new hospitalizations a week ago (2 recovered and 1 died since then). Another new hospitalization yesterday.

Buffalo media say that 25% to 50% of their new cases are in vaccinated people, which sounds like delta, not alpha. If that's happening in their vaccinated population, I am bracing for what will happen in our local unvaccinated population.

My local CVS used to sell a higher grade of surgical masks, with a more snug cheek fit and better filtration than most, 50 per box. I was using them to double up with cloth masks. But yesterday, when I tried to buy more, I learned that they were just pulled from the shelves to save for employee use in case of need. So CVS is preparing, but nobody else here is. Nobody is wearing masks.

Fortunately I also have a box of N95 masks, but need to order more.

Rough road ahead.

Those are probably the ones that are getting the "urgency"...

When the vaccines came out, Covid went down...Slackers were like..."I'm cool....This is good..pandemic is over..."

Also when vaccines first came out, it was next to impossible for a slacker to obtain them. Heck we only got them because my SIL likes to hustle.
