Damn stupid fucking people. Pregnant women are at risk for severe complications from Covid.
This is in east San Diego County. Bunch of stupid people in that area. She is a Trump supporter and an Evangelical Christian.

(34,092 posts)I used a midwife in this community when my daughter was born (in a hospital, under a doctor's supervisoin). The medical community was still big on heavy duty medical intervention, and while I wanted intervention when necessary - I wasn't willing to be strapped down the moment I entered the hospital so a corkscrew contact could be screwed into my daughter's head, or to have labor induced as a matter of course. Midwives who work with doctors were one of the few ways to avoid that (and also were more likely to be associated with a doctor who similarly viewed many "standard" interventions as tools to be used when needed - but not as a matter of routine.
That communty tends to be court-averse (trying to settle things through Christian medation). You don't generally get to one of these midwives without a referral from someone they know - who is also likely in the community.
So, while there is still the potential for litigation, it is far lower.

(111,351 posts)They're already putting each other at risk for common complications. Covid just adds another layer to it, it's just another day of doing god's work as dictated by men.

Note: can be done gently and non-confrontationally when needed.

(32,767 posts)I live in Pennsylvania and we have Amish people living all around the east-central part of the state. They're mainly in the Lancaster area, but not limited to Lancaster. So the Amish groups are all maskless and unvaxxed. The women mostly use midwives and birth at home rather than in a hospital.
I've been told that some Amish people are Trumpers, but realistically they aren't too political. They just want to be left alone. I don't think they ever watch TV or read a newspaper, however they do listen to the radio for weather reports and agricultural news. So guess what they're hearing on the radio? I'll bet I don't have to tell you.
Amish people ARE passing Covid around and some have died, but they tell each other "It's God's will."

(157 posts)I have no issue with midwives. I think all babies should be born through a midwife if possible. But I do believe they need to be sanctioned and licensed by a governing body.
My friend's sister is a total anti-vaxxer. I used to be. I didn't have my daughter vaccinated as a young child. I bought into the mercury/autism connection. I now know that I was hoodwinked. My poor daughter has never had the measles/rubella vaccine.
And she has bought into the QAnon nonsense. Full circle of craziness.
