Eight Times Ron DeSantis "Accidentally" Did Racist Stuff
JERRY IANNELLI
Miami New Times, SEPTEMBER 4, 2018
After enough racism scandals involving a particular political candidate, you'd think everyone might just admit that person is simply racist. Yet a whole lot of people from bad-faith conservative pundits to easily fooled reporters continue offering excuses for Republican gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis' infamous statement on Fox News that Andrew Gillum would "monkey... up" Florida.
SNIP
1. He spoke at a Muslim-bashing event alongside Milo Yiannopoulos and Steve Bannon.
SNIP
2. He called New York candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is a Puerto Rican woman, "whatever she is."
SNIP
3. He defended a supporter who said "bring back the hanging tree."
SNIP
4. He was moderator of a Facebook group that was a haven for racist memes and was run by lunatics.

5. He proudly associated himself with Sebastian Gorka, who has ties to a Hungarian far-right group that collaborated with the Nazis.

Gov. Ron DeSantis Wants to Defund Florida Universities That Teach Anti-Racism
DeSantis signed a law to track political beliefs at universities and threatened budget cuts for those he doesnt like.
Natasha Lennard
The Intercept, June 27, 2021
MANY REPUBLICANS HAVE become invested in enforcing a white supremacist backlash in their states education system, but perhaps none so much as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
As dozens of bills are advancing in statehouses nationwide to ban the teaching of the basic truths of Americas racist history, DeSantis signed a bill into law this week that threatens to surveil and cut funding to public institutions of higher learning found to be on the wrong side of the Republicans ongoing white nationalist crusade.
Unlike much of the paranoiac legislation, like bills signed into law in Idaho and Texas and in consideration in other places the new Florida law does not deploy the right-wing canard of critical race theory. DeSantis signed a law that was written in the vaguest terms but was all too clear, given the current context, in its intent.
The law will require public universities and colleges to survey students, faculty, and staff about their beliefs and viewpoints. The governor and the bills lead sponsor, Florida state Sen. Ray Rodrigues, said the effort aims to support intellectual diversity. Though no mention of it is made in the law, DeSantis and Rodrigues said institutions found to be indoctrinating students risk losing crucial state funding.
There can be no doubt about what ideas DeSantis considers to be worthy of concern: Universities that take up the necessary work of challenging hegemonic racial capitalism and patriarchy are in the legislations crosshairs.

So, yes, I do know what the NAZIs did. In fact, Ive devoted a good part of my life to fighting them every way I can. Heres one example of a DU post:
How Real Nazis Came to the Americas: the Recruitment of Klaus Barbie
ETA from 2013: Two Warren Commissioners had extensive ties to NAZI Germany...
And, for the record, I am a Puerto Rican man of English heritage via Wisconsin, whatever that is.

(2,856 posts)That being a phony tough guy. They love that shit. He could burn down retirement communities, smack around some elderly people, women and children and especially some blacks and as long as he was acting all gruff and tough, they wouldn't give a shit. They'd heap more praise upon him. I'm surprised he hasn't donned a cowboy hat and strapped a six-shooter to his belt yet. It's because of these charades of republicans that we can't have nice things and a decent society.

(1,910 posts)He will be their nominee in 2024. With Repug legislatures being able to flip counties in GA and AZ that leaves MI, PA, WI as the only way to hold the Presidency.
Desantis has all the authoritarian desires of Trump, but with more thoughtful execution of a plan.
This guy is an absolute danger to democracy.
