Renters who plan to work from home at least part of the time going forward are looking for that elusive home-office space, but they'll have to pay a premium to get it.
A survey of 20,000 renters on RentCafe.com in May found about one-third of renters would be working from home either full time or part time for the foreseeable future. Of those, about 35% are interested in getting an apartment with an extra bedroom. About 60% of those living in studio apartments are interested in an extra space.
Why? Because only about 26% have a separate room to use for work, according to the survey by RentCafe.
Granted, space has been a persistent challenge for apartment dwellers in the last year and a half. But, for that one-third, the realization that working from home is now a more permanent setup has just turned a temporary need for extra space into a long-term necessity, said Florentina Sarac in a blog post for RentCafe.
