(2,220 posts)We were watching the Hurricane Hell Drivers. The show was stopped, and the announcement came over the crackly old PA system. I think someone held a radio up to the PA. After the speech, everyone cheered, the cars revved up again..and that was that.

(560 posts)with my wife, her parents (both hated Nixon) and her brother and sister in Lake George, NY. The little motel we stayed was named Kathy's (same as my wife). We watched it on a little b&w tv, probably 19 inch screen.

(9,273 posts)My parents were teachers so we were all home. Kind of shocking that it actually happened. My folks voted for him, regretted it and never voted Republican again.

(25,504 posts)I had some trouble with the law, so I took college chemistry in summer school to get off juvenile probation early.
I turned 18 in November of 74, but I graduated in 1974. I was gonna be stuck in juvenile probation until my 18th birthday!! Nothing like a juvie college student....

(4,858 posts)...with the rest of the crowd, seeing history. I went to George Washington University, and saw the whole Watergate drama unfolding in front of my eyes. Those were some days...

(23,266 posts)...when he gave his resignation speech. Somebody had a little portable TV set, and we watched his speech on it. Next day I was able to watch his departure and Ford's rushed inauguration.

(37,362 posts)I was on a ship as an intern engineer.
The Chief Mate declared that it was the worst day of his life.
Of course since then, Reagan, Bush and trump proved that Nixon was a pretty good President, as they go.

(25,504 posts)It was a humid day.
I watched his speech on TV
Then, I went out with my BF and met my best friend at the bar too. My best friend and I talked about it. But we also talked about the humidity.
I was 17, but I recently graduated from HS.

(1,850 posts)From a child's perspective, I liked him when I was 10 or 11 and he went to China and made friends with them. We had a lot of social studies lessons on government that spring, when Agnew resigned and Ford became VP. I don't recall thinking it was a big deal. Now I know better.
My dad was a republican and mom was a democrat. They never discussed politics with each other, but they each discussed it with me. My dad called him tricky dicky with pride. He seemed to judge Nixon for getting caught, not for what he did. Mom said he was a power hungry crook.
I felt like things were running smoothly, even though.a president resigned we had a VP ready to take the reigns. I also remember thinking I'd never be a republican!

(25,504 posts)Just that he was power hungry and broke the law.
I was young myself.
In 1976, I turned around and voted for Ford.
But in 1980, I voted for Carter...Reagan woke me up to the rethug party....
