I'm very bothered by all the innocent people getting murdered by the taliban.

(15,915 posts)I know some quit, but surely they must have a decent sized army by now.

(948 posts)No more. Not a penny more spent on that "country".
Either they stand on their own, or they don't.
You cannot change the "hearts and minds" of those who cannot be reasoned with.
Someone here mentioned that other countries should offer amnesty or organize some kind of exodus to get as many women out of there as possible.
I think that is a great idea. Try something different.

FIX...SIMPLE question
Can you honestly look away and ignore the murder of kids, the atrocities and the unspeakable horror of young girls ?
you know where i stand...i wait for your reply.
Fix The Stupid
(948 posts)I blame religion, tribal politics, paternalism, etc.etc.
I don't believe you can change these things with military might.
There needs to be an "awakening" in some of these backwards countries.
It will take education. Lots of education - not so much religion.
And I still believe that the women of Afghanistan hold more power then they realize, (Actually, I think all women underestimate just how much power they actually wield..) but they need to be mobilized and supported.
I could support some kind of program to that affect, but I cannot justify a single soldier or any military campaign being brought there again. Ever.
War is just a racket for governments to move money from 1 pocket to another pocket. It really is that simple...
Who supplies the soldiers meals? Clothes? Medicine? etc, etc.
Who supplies the arms? The tanks, the fuel to run them?
Once you get the answers to those questions, you will see how phony these last wars have been...it has never been about "nation building" or "regime change" - it's all about those *TRILLIONs* of $$ that flow out of gov't coffers in war time... always has been - always will be.

(2,736 posts)i am sickened to my stomach.
I've been posting articles as to whats going on over there...and no one really cares.
i understand its frustrating .
the young girls are in hiding or went to kabul.
27+ KIDS HAVE ALREADY BEEN MURDERED !!
Biden better come up with an international plan.
Do we have some responsibility ? I think we do. Not necessarily troops on the ground.
The taliban are a bunch of sickos.

(2,957 posts)The problem is religious and tribal in nature. How do you stop an idea? Unless we simply want to KILL everyone who follows the Taliban I don't know what can be done. The Taliban is deeply ingrained in Afghanistan culture and politics, that's why so many of the Afghan army have been simply throwing down their guns and going home, they SUPPORT the Taliban.
