It's quite possible that the Taliban will commemorate the twentieth anniversary of that day in full control of Afghanistan.
Kabul - the Afghan capital - could literally fall to the Taliban on September 11, 2021, and that's probably an optimistic assessment.
We probably think too much in terms of "symbolism" when it comes to things like this, but good Lord the bookending here. Imagine if the Taliban "take" Kabul on 9/11.

Don't think for a second that they missed Rumsfeld's handshakes with Saddam before the USA invaded his country, eventually getting him hanged.
Or how they trashed their homeland in their search for Osama.
They didn't miss the handshake between Obama and Ghadaffy not long b4 they trashed Libya, resulting in a horrific death for Ghadaffy.
They didn't miss the handshake between Pelosi and Assad b4 the USA trashed Syria,
and so on.
Not much wonder the USA is reluctant to put boots on the ground in Afghanistan.
The Taliban know all about the horrors of Abu Ghraib, Gitmo, black rendition sites and so on . . . .
They fought for 20 years to regain power - just doing the "finishing touches".
Gawd help any USAmerican or it's "allies" that the Taliban get their hands on.
That's our legacy

And many of us said this would happen from the start.
