The greatest threat to Biden's agenda is not the Progressive Caucus or the Squad, but these conservative Democrats."

A group of nine conservative House Democrats on Friday threatened to torpedo a $3.5 trillion budget resolutionthe cornerstone of their party's social spending and climate agendaunless Speaker Nancy Pelosi first allows a vote on a $550 billion bipartisan infrastructure bill that has been criticized as inadequate and potentially harmful to the environment.
"It what world is it 'moderate' to kill a $3.5 trillion agenda against the majority of your own party? It's far-right austerity."
Zack Burley, The Climate Mobilization
In a letter to Pelosi (D-Calif.), Democratic Reps. Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, Carolyn Bourdeaux of Georgia, Filemon Vela of Texas, Henry Cuellar of Texas, Ed Case of Hawaii, Kurt Schrader of Oregon, Jared Golden of Maine, Vicente Gonzalez of Texas, and Jim Costa of California warned that they "will not consider voting for a budget resolution until the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passes the House and is signed into law."

I have every confidence that they both will pass

(29,322 posts)The squad has a similar size group but they rarely use this kind of negotiating tactic.

(92,397 posts)case of the so-called moderates, or won't allow the bipartisan plan to pass in the case of the progressive caucus
Both will pass
The stakes are too high, and both sides realize the midterms are at stake

(5,586 posts)I think there's a very good chance neither bill passes. Remember us laughing at the Repubs when McCain voted against the ACA repeal? That could be us in 60 days.

(29,322 posts)This was back in late June but Biden has been trying to negotiate an infrastructure deal all summer. I give credit to Biden with the way he negotiated especially when it comes to Senators like Manchin.

If they successfully block passage or enable the neutering of the reconciliation package, I will contribute to primary opponents who support Bidens agenda.

(68,675 posts)their re-election that the bi-partisan bill passes. Then we turn our attention to the other bill. Both should pass.

(15,657 posts)Then they wont block the reconciliation bill, and allow the process to move forward. Once the reconciliation bill passes the senate, passage of the bipartisan bill in the house is guaranteed. There is absolutely no reason to demand passage of the bipartisan bill before the reconciliation bill other than to sabotage reconciliation.
Whether the bipartisan bill passes the house in September instead of October or November is not going to affect the re-election chances for these so-called moderates.
Otherwise, Im sure we can elect 9 better moderates in those districts who support Bidens agenda.
Without passing voting rights, some of those moderates (3 from TX, 1 from GA) may just get gerrymandered out of their seats anyway.

(68,675 posts)supported legislation. The only difference is that moderates come from purple and red states and we may not reelect more moderates whereas the progressive states are mosty deep blue and will elect Democrats if an incumbent loses a primary. This is not true for moderates. And since we need moderates to hold our majority, we should consider how any legislation affects their electability in order to keep our majority which is endangered.

(42,373 posts)unless it's done their way, they are applauded. This is the same kind of negotiation tactic.
The media loves to push "Dems in disarray," regardless of reality.
