I called her and she verified the person died to due COVID.
I have been pestering the coworker on the phone for weeks to get vaccinated and she told me today she still hasn't.
She is a breast cancer survivor and asthma sufferer.
I begged her again today to get the shots and reminded her of what's going on in the states around us, most namely Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama and Texas.
She STILL would not commit to getting the shots.

(5,676 posts)likely without a case by case review before accepting them when being treated for cancer. Hard to understand these folks.

(32,645 posts)She should make sure her last will is written and filed. She should make her wishes known as to burial vs. cremation. Maybe that will scare her into getting vaccinated.

(6,688 posts)I have someone in my family with chronic health issues, a particular one they are struggling to diagnose. She's skipping the vaccine but also being VERY careful about everything she is putting in her body and using on her skin hair etc. She is just trying to limit everything she can to aid in diagnosis. In the meantime following all the other protocols to keep safe .
If your coworker is working from home, severely limiting contacts, masking, etc etc then she might be able to "go long" until either the vaccine is not needed or we have better data on what sort of vaccine protocol if any will be needed over her lifetime.
Contrary to popular rhetoric, not everyone avoiding vaccine is anti-vax. They aren't all believing the misinformation. Your co-worker has a lot going on medically. Some will decide to Vax to give themselves a better chance along with being able to loose up just a bit on quarantining. Others choose to keep up the protocols before vax and wait it out. As long as they are not getting or passing it, then there is no wrong choice.

I recommend she consult with her doctors.

That is the only thing that's going to work on a lot of these people.
People still use that word?
and when you get to be my age, you will also shock the young.

(8,203 posts)Maybe we could brainstorm on what might help.
And I think the best might be listening to people like her speaking from their hospital beds. I think the Don Lemon video from yesterday might persuade her because it doesn't demonize people who haven't been vaccinated.
